This article explains how to factory reset a Samsung Galaxy device. This procedure also implies the deletion of all personal data and apps installed manually on the smartphone or tablet.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using the "Settings" Menu
Step 1. Go to the "Applications" panel of your Samsung Galaxy
This is a menu that lists all the apps installed on the device.
Step 2. Tap the icon
present in the "Applications" panel.
The "Settings" menu will be displayed.
Step 3. Scroll down the menu that appeared to be able to choose the Backup and Restore option
The device backup and restore settings menu will appear.
If the indicated option is not present in the "Settings" menu, search for the item General management. On some devices the option Reset is inserted in this submenu.
Step 4. Choose the Factory data reset option
A new screen will appear.
Step 5. Press the Reset Device button
All personal data and information will be deleted from the device, along with any apps that have been manually installed. You will be asked to confirm your action in order to continue.
Consider backing up all your data before restoring. Otherwise you will not be able to retrieve the information on the device before the reset
Step 6. Press the Clear All button
This will confirm your choice and start the device reset procedure. All personal and app data will be deleted.
- If you are using an older version of Android, you will need to press the button Delete everything.
- The recovery process takes some time to complete. At the end of this phase the device will be restarted automatically.
Method 2 of 2: Use Recovery Mode
Step 1. Turn off the Samsung Galaxy
In order to enter "Recovery" mode, you need to turn off the device and use the advanced boot menu.
Step 2. Press and hold the "Volume Down", "Home" and "Power" keys at the same time
The device will turn on. Do not release the indicated keys until the "Android system recovery" screen appears on the screen.
Using some Samsung Galaxy devices you will need to hold down the key Volume up, instead of the "Volume Down" key.
Step 3. Use the "Volume Up" and "Volume Down" keys to select the wipe data / factory reset menu item
Scroll through the items in the menu that appears using the keys to adjust the volume, then select the option indicated. The device will reset and any data it contains will be erased.
Step 4. Press the "Power" button
In this case, the indicated key performs the same function as the Enter key allowing you to select the option wipe data / factory reset of the menu. On the next screen you will be asked to confirm your action.
Step 5. Select the Yes - delete all user data item from the appeared menu
Use the volume keys to scroll through the menu options and the "Power" key to select the one you want. The device reset procedure will start which will cause the deletion of all your personal data and applications.
