To use Google Translate for Android you will need an internet connection. However, in case there is no connection available and you are in desperate need to translate something, you can always use the Google Translate application in offline mode. Like? By downloading language packs that you can use later, when your phone is not connected via Wi-Fi or mobile network.
Steps
Step 1. Open Google Translate
Press the Google Translate app icon on your phone screen to open it.
Step 2. Press the language button
The language key is located at the top of the screen. Both language keys will work (translate from and translate to).
Step 3. Choose the language you want to download
Press the pin icon next to the language you want to download.
Not all languages have a pin icon. This means that the language pack for offline translation is not available for those languages
Step 4. Choose the connection you prefer
To download the language pack you can choose the connection method you prefer, both Wi-Fi and mobile network.

Press “Okay” to start the download and wait for it to finish.

Step 5. Disconnect your phone from any applications that use the internet
Step 6. Select the language you just downloaded
The gray pin icon next to the downloaded language will now be black. This means that the language pack has been downloaded and is ready to be used in offline mode.
You can now use Google Translate while offline
Advice
- Immediately after installation, only the English language package is available in offline mode.
- For proper use of Google Translate in offline mode, you will need to download the language packs from and into which you want to translate, otherwise the message: “Translation failed” will appear.
- When you try to use a language not available in offline mode on your phone, the application will show you the message "Translation failed" and will advise you to download the package. Click on the "Download Packages" button to download it.
