This article teaches how to change the language of a Google Home device using the app of the same name on iPhone and Android. Your Google Assistant language choices vary by device and geographic location. Once the Google Home language is changed, the assistant will only recognize commands in that language.
Steps
Step 1. Open the Google Home app
In the app drawer, press the Google Home icon, which has the rainbow profile of a house. If you don't already have this program installed, download it and connect it to your Google Home device.
- On Android, you can download the Google Home app from the Play Store.
- On iPhone, you can download the Google Home app from the App Store.
Step 2. Press ☰
You will see this icon with three lines in the upper left corner. Press it and the main menu will open on the left side of the screen.
Step 3. Press Devices
On iPhone, this is the first menu option at the top, while on Android, it's at the bottom in the second section of items. Press it and a page will open where you will find all the devices connected to Google Home in your home network.
Step 4. Press ⋮ or ⋯ on your Google Home device.
Press the three-dot button in the top right corner of the Google Home speaker icon. A small drop-down menu will open.
Step 5. Press Settings
This is the first menu item.
Step 6. Press More
It's the last entry in the "Google Assistant Settings" section of the page, right under the "Speech Recognition" option.
Step 7. Scroll down and press Google Home speakers
Press the name of the speakers in the "Devices" section of the settings page.
If you have more than one Google Home device, changing the language of one of them will change it for all other devices connected to the same account
Step 8. Press Assistant Language
On Android, this is the penultimate option at the bottom of the page. On the iPhone, it's the third entry starting from the top.
Step 9. Select a different language
This will instantly change the language of the Google Assistant voice on your Google Home device. The options available to you vary by device and geographic location.
- Once the Google Home language is changed, the assistant will only recognize commands in that language.
- You can choose various types of English accents for your Google Home device. The assistant will recognize your commands better if you speak to him using the same accent selected for the voice.
