This article describes how to assign the admin role in a group chat on Skype. You have to be an administrator to give those powers to another participant.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Skype for Windows 10
Step 1. Open Skype
Click on the Start menu (the Windows logo in the lower left corner of the screen) and select Skype from the app list.
If you haven't signed in to Skype yet, enter your credentials and click Log in.
Step 2. Select the group chat
You will find it in the "Recent Conversations" section on the left side of the program.
If you don't see the conversation in this section, you can search for it using the search bar at the top of Skype
Step 3. Click the participant list
It is located at the top of the conversation window. All group members will be displayed.
Step 4. Choose the person you want to make administrator
Your profile will open.
Step 5. Find your Skype username
It is placed under the word "Skype" on the right side of the page. You'll have to type this username verbatim in a few moments, so write it down somewhere if it's hard to remember by heart.
Step 6. Go back to the group chat
You can do this by clicking on the arrow at the top left of the person's profile.
Step 7. Write / MASTER bristles
Replace "" with that of the new administrator.
Step 8. Press Enter
You just promoted the selected person to administrator.
- You can view the list of all admins by clicking the group name at the top of the conversation.
- To add another administrator, repeat the operation using the new user's Skype name.
Method 2 of 3: Skype Classic for macOS and Windows 8.1
Step 1. Open Skype
The program icon is blue with a white "S". If you are using Windows, you can find it in the Start menu. On a Mac, look for it in the Dock (usually found at the bottom of the screen) or in the Applications folder.
If you are not already logged in, enter your credentials and click Log in.
Step 2. Click Recent
This button is located in the left section.
Step 3. Select a group
Group conversations are listed in the left section.
Step 4. Click the participant list
It's at the top of the conversation, just below the group name and number of members. The list of all users in the chat will appear.
Step 5. Right-click on the person you want to make administrator
If your mouse doesn't have a right button, hold down Ctrl while clicking the left button.
Step 6. Click View Profile
Step 7. Right click on their Skype name
You will find it next to the word "Skype" on his profile.
Step 8. Click Copy
This copies the person's username to the clipboard.
Step 9. Close the profile window
Click the X in the upper right corner of the page. You will return to the group chat.
Step 10. Write / MASTER bristles
Replace "" with that of the new administrator. Here's how to write the command:
- Type / bristle and press the space bar once.
- Press Ctrl + V (Windows) or ⌘ Cmd + V (macOS) to paste the username, then press the space bar once.
- Write MASTER.
Step 11. Press Enter
The chosen user is an administrator.
- You can see the list of all admins by clicking on the group name at the top of the conversation.
- To add another admin, repeat this operation using the Skype name of another user in the group.
Method 3 of 3: Skype for Web
Step 1. Open the Skype web version page with a browser
You can use all modern browsers, such as Safari, Chrome or Firefox.
If you see the Skype sign in screen, you need to sign in to your profile. Enter your Skype username, click Come on, then type in your password. Click Log in.
Step 2. Select a group
You should see what interests you in the left section of Skype. If you don't see it, click Search on Skype and type the name. It should appear in the results.
Step 3. Click the group name
It is located at the top of the group page. The list of current group participants will open.
Step 4. Click the name of the person you want to add
A menu will appear.
Step 5. Select View Profile
Step 6. Copy your Skype username
It will appear under the word "Skype" in the center of your profile. You can use your mouse or trackpad to highlight the name, then press Ctrl + C (Windows) or ⌘ Cmd + C (macOS) to copy it.
Step 7. Write / MASTER bristles
Replace "" with the new administrator's Skype username. Here's how to write the command:
- Type / bristle and press the space bar once.
- Press Ctrl + V (Windows) or ⌘ Cmd + V (macOS) to paste the username, then press the space bar once.
- Write MASTER.
Step 8. Press Enter
The chosen user is an administrator.
