False lashes can be quite expensive, so it's worth being able to use them for multiple occasions. If you want to apply them once again, you have several solutions available; you can clean them with a cotton swab or use tweezers and a container full of makeup remover to slowly bring them back to their original state. When finished, store them safely in a cool, dry place.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Use a Cotton Fioc
Step 1. Gather the materials
Before you start cleaning, you need to get everything you need. To follow this method you need:
- A specific make-up remover for the eyes;
- Denatured alcohol;
- Cotton balls;
- Cotton swab;
- Tweezers.
Step 2. Wash your hands
To start, sanitize your hands with tap water and antibacterial soap; you don't have to manipulate the false eyelashes with dirty fingers, as this could trigger an eye infection.
- Wet your hands with running water; scrub them with antibacterial soap for 20 seconds creating a thick lather. Do not neglect the critical areas, such as between the fingers, the back and under the nails.
- Rinse them with water and dry them with a clean cloth.
Step 3. Remove the false eyelashes
Before cleaning them, carefully peel them off your eyelids; use your fingertips only, avoiding using your fingernails or tweezers for this operation, otherwise you risk damaging your eyelashes.
- Grasp them firmly between thumb and forefinger.
- Slowly pull the adhesive strip inwards; the lashes should come off without too much difficulty.
Step 4. Wet a cotton ball with the makeup remover and use it to pat your lashes
First, take the wad, moisten it with a little cleansing milk or a similar product and finally tap it on the false eyelashes, from the tips towards the base, without neglecting the adhesive band; continue until you have removed all the cosmetic.
Step 5. Repeat the procedure on the opposite side
Flip your lashes, take a new wad moistened with make-up remover and do the same, dabbing your lashes up to the tips. Again, don't neglect the adhesive band and be sure to remove all make-up.
Step 6. Use tweezers to get rid of the glue residue
Usually, there are traces of adhesive left on the band that you can remove with tweezers.
- Inspect your lashes carefully for any glue residue and, if you find any, remove it with tweezers; hold the eyelashes between the fingertips of one hand, while with the other you work with the instrument.
- Be careful to pull only the glue; forcing the lashes directly could cause damage.
Step 7. Dip a new cotton ball in denatured alcohol and rub the adhesive strip
This way, you get rid of any adhesive or makeup residue. This last step allows you not only to get rid of the glue, but also to disinfect the strip so that you can safely apply the lashes a second time.
Method 2 of 3: Use a Plastic Container
Step 1. Gather the materials
Before you practice this technique, you need to make sure you have everything you need. Specifically, you need:
- A plastic container, such as a small Tupperware;
- An eye make-up remover;
- Tweezers;
- Paper towels;
- Comb for eyelashes.
Step 2. Wash your hands
As always, you should sanitize your hands before starting to avoid contaminating your false lashes with bacteria. Remember to scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds using water and an antibacterial soap. Do not neglect the areas between the fingers, the backs and under the nails; when finished, rinse and dry with a clean cloth.
Step 3. Take them off
When you have washed your hands, remove the lashes from your eyes using your fingertips and not your fingernails or tweezers. Grasp them between thumb and forefinger and pull the adhesive strip inwards; you shouldn't have difficulty.
Step 4. Place them in the container
Simply put them in the bowl by placing them sideways.
Step 5. Pour some makeup remover into the container
A tablespoon of detergent should be sufficient, but if the bowl is large, a larger amount may be needed; pour just enough to completely soak your lashes.
Step 6. Set the lashes aside for five minutes
Choose a safe place to place the container, so that children or pets cannot reach it; remember not to let more than five minutes pass, otherwise you can damage your lashes.
Step 7. Remove them with tweezers
After five minutes, remove them gently from the container and place them on a clean sheet of absorbent paper; make sure that the latter is in turn on a flat and clean surface.
Step 8. Remove the glue using tweezers
Hold the lashes with the thumb and forefinger of one hand, while with the other you work with tweezers to remove any residual adhesive from the band; remember to never tug on your lashes, otherwise they may tear.
Step 9. Clean the container and add more makeup remover
Rinse the container thoroughly and then pour in more detergent, even if in a smaller quantity; you just need to cover the bottom with a thin layer.
Step 10. Drag the lashes onto the makeup remover
Take the tweezers and use them to move the lashes inside the container, from side to side; turn them over and repeat the operation on the other side.
Step 11. Continue like this until the false lashes are clean
As the container empties, add more cleanser and drag the lashes with tweezers; repeat the procedure until the cleanser dries, a sign that the lashes are completely clean.
Step 12. Place them on a clean paper towel and wait for them to dry
Once clean, place them to dry on an absorbent surface, such as a paper towel. Make sure they are out of the reach of children and pets.
Step 13. Comb with the comb tool
Take the false eyelashes and use the specific comb to straighten them; do not neglect this step, because it allows you to keep them in their original form.
Method 3 of 3: Properly Stow the False Eyelashes
Step 1. Let them dry completely before storing them
You don't have to put them away when they are still damp; wait for them to dry for about an hour before transferring them to a container.
Step 2. Put them in a box
You should place them in the original packaging they were in at the time of purchase. Don't leave them in a mess in your makeup drawer, as they can become covered in dust and dirt, potentially causing an eye infection.
If you no longer have the original box, you can use a contact lens container; alternatively, you can buy a specific container online
Step 3. Store them in a dark place
False eyelashes should be protected from direct sunlight to prevent them from changing color; remember to keep them in a dark place to prevent this from happening.
