False lashes instantly thicken and lengthen natural lashes, so they can't be missing from any self-respecting makeup collection. While they are not particularly expensive, running to buy them all the time is not at all practical. The good news is that even the least expensive lashes can be worn multiple times, as long as they are treated with caution. This means that you need to carefully remove them, disinfect them and make sure you have a clean and safe place to store them.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Remove False Eyelashes
Step 1. Soak a cotton swab or cotton pad in make-up remover
Gently wipe the strip attached to the eyelid to melt the glue.
Better to use an oil-free eye make-up remover: oily substances can leave residues that would prevent the glue from adhering well to the false eyelashes during another use
Step 2. Once the glue has started to melt thanks to the action of the makeup remover, detach the lash by lifting it from the outer corner
Make sure you start from this area, as it tends to come off more easily.
Pull off your lashes with your fingertips. Do not use tweezers or fingernails, otherwise you risk tearing the lashes or deforming the strip
Step 3. With the outer corner lifted, slowly detach the lashes from the inner corner as well
Proceed slowly and precisely, so as not to deform the strip or the lashes.
If parts of your lashes haven't come off, take a clean cotton swab and soak it in eye makeup remover so you can wipe it over the affected area before trying to remove it
Part 2 of 3: Clean the Lashes
Step 1. Remove your false lashes, soak a cotton pad in eye makeup remover and wipe the entire strip to remove any residual eyeliner or mascara
- Clean both sides of the strip to make sure you remove all makeup residue.
- If you use synthetic false eyelashes, you can dip them in a few drops of eye makeup remover to remove makeup or other residue. Instead, don't soak your faux mink or natural fur lashes, otherwise you will damage them.
Step 2. Once the makeup residue is removed, you should also remove the last traces of glue
Grasp the lashes between your index finger and thumb, then gently peel off the adhesive with tweezers.
- If you find a thick layer of glue in it, you may be able to peel it off with your fingers.
- In some cases it is possible to remove the glue with a single tear, while in others it is necessary to remove one piece at a time.
Step 3. To make sure your lashes are not contaminated with bacteria, it is important to disinfect them before wearing them again
Soak a cotton ball in isopropyl alcohol and wipe both sides of the strip to get rid of bacteria and any remaining glue residue.
If there is any glue left on the strip, you risk irritating your eyes when reapplying your lashes, so it's important to remove it completely
Step 4. Let the lashes air dry:
it is not advisable to put them away when they are still wet, otherwise they will be damaged or moldy before the time comes to reuse them. Place them on a towel or paper towel and let them dry for 15-20 minutes.
Part 3 of 3: Retain False Eyelashes for Reuse
Step 1. To keep them clean and prevent them from collecting dust before another use, it is important to store them in a plastic container
It is not necessary to buy a special one: keep the original packaging and the tray containing the grooves in the shape of a crescent moon so that the lashes can stay well curled.
If you ever lose or misplace the original packaging, you can buy a reusable case at a makeup shop or on the internet. They often allow you to store more than a pair of lashes, so you can keep them all in one place
Step 2. Once dry, take the lashes, place them in the crescent moon shaped grooves and close the plastic package, gently folding them to fit into the cavity and maintain a proper shape
Then, insert the tray into the package and close it: the lashes will be protected from dust and dirt.
Step 3. Once stored in the box, it is important to keep them in a dry and dark place
Heat and bright light can cause them to warp, so put them in a drawer or similar place until next use.
Avoid keeping them in the bathroom, an environment that often tends to get hot and humid
Advice
- The removal of eyelashes and glue should always be done gently. If the process doesn't happen immediately, this can be frustrating. However, if you are too abrupt or take them off too quickly, you risk damaging them.
- Avoid applying mascara directly to your false lashes, as it is difficult to remove all residue when cleaning. Instead, apply it to your lashes before putting on the fake ones to keep them as clean as possible.
- Thick strip false eyelashes are more durable, so they are easier to reuse. Those with a thin stripe usually begin to stretch and deform sooner.
