Thick and long lashes help enhance and beautify any makeup. However, if the natural ones are not long enough, it can be difficult to enhance them. Mascara makes them visibly thicker and more voluminous, but sometimes that's not enough. This is why it is also useful to use single strands of false eyelashes. They are in fact effective for lengthening and volumizing normal lashes, while maintaining a natural effect. The application takes some time, but the result is worth it!
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Prepare the Lashes
Step 1. Choose individual lashes
The single tufts can be bought in perfumery or makeup stores. They are sometimes sold in kits with tweezers and glue, practical for having everything you need in one place.
- If you decide to buy only one pack of single lashes, be sure to buy the glue as well.
- Buy false lashes that match your natural color. There are blond, brown and black tufts.
Step 2. Clean your eyelids
Before applying your false lashes, remove any makeup residue from your eyes with a makeup remover. According to some people it is preferable to put on makeup before putting on false eyelashes, according to others it is better to do it after. In any case, it is advisable to work on a clean surface to allow the tufts to have a good base to adhere to, without being hindered by residues of dirt, sebum or make-up.
Step 3. Prepare the glue
Pour a drop of false eyelash glue onto a small piece of aluminum foil. You don't need much to apply the false eyelashes: a drop is enough to evenly cover the lower area of the tuft.
- False eyelash glue is usually black or white.
- The black glue is useful for those who want to do a heavy make-up, while the white one becomes transparent once dry and is preferable for those who want a more natural result.
Step 4. Test the area where you want to put the false lashes
Before proceeding with the application, take a tuft from the package with the help of tweezers, then place it on the point where you want it to adhere. This helps you decide where to place your lashes before pouring in the glue, in order to get a natural result that best enhances the eye.
- Since natural lashes vary in length, false lashes also have this characteristic. In one pack you can usually find small, medium and long lashes.
- Try different types of applications to get the desired result. For a discreet effect, it is recommended to apply 3 or 5 false eyelashes towards the central part and the outer corner of the eye. It is also possible to thicken the lashes on the outer corner to elongate the eye.
- The smaller lashes are designed for the inner corner of the eye and to fill in the empty spaces, while the medium and long ones are designed for the central part and the outer corner of the eye. In any case, you can try to make small variations to the length to get a natural effect.
Part 2 of 2: Apply False Eyelashes
Step 1. Apply glue to your lashes
Individual lashes are available individually or in clusters of 2-5 lashes. Regardless of the packaging, grab the base of the lashes with tweezers and gently peel them off the lash compartment. The base of the lashes should face towards you, while the ends face outwards. Carefully dip only the base of the lashes into the drop of glue you poured onto the foil.
- Always follow the instructions on the glue package.
- The amount of glue to use should be enough to make sure the lashes don't come off, but not enough to leave a drop of viscous material on the lid.
- Try waiting 15 to 30 seconds before applying lashes to the movable lid. This way the glue will thicken and adhere better to the skin.
Step 2. Glue the false eyelashes to the movable lid
Looking at yourself, bring the tweezers close to the eye while keeping it slightly open. Starting from the center of the upper eyelid, make the false lashes adhere to the roots of the real ones. At this point, you can use the tweezers to gently "comb" the false lashes upwards. In this way they will adapt to the curvature of the real ones and will not hang over the eye, preventing you from seeing well.
- The single tufts can be applied to both the upper and lower lash lines, although the result is more natural when placed only on the mobile eyelid.
- Some people apply false eyelashes with their fingers. The choice of method depends on your preferences. If this is your first time using them, tweezers will give you greater precision.
- If you make a mistake, you can easily remove your lashes and try to reposition them before the glue dries. If the glue is particularly strong and the lashes have already set, wait for them to dry completely. It takes about 10 minutes. Then, remove the tufts that you did not apply correctly with the help of the tweezers, remove the glue residues and try to make them adhere again.
Step 3. Continue applying lashes to both eyes
Generally, it is easier to apply lashes to one eye at a time. You can use only a few tufts or all the false lashes that you find in the package, this depends on the result you want to achieve. Apply the lashes starting from the center of the eye, then work towards the outer corner. As you go along, use longer and longer lashes. Then, apply the shorter ones to the inner corner of the eye.
- Working from the central area of the eye to the outer corner, you will gradually increase the thickness of the lashes. To get a more natural result, vary the length slightly in some places.
- As you apply the false lashes, keep the shape of your eye in mind. Each shape requires a different concentration of lashes depending on the area.
Step 4. Make some adjustments
After about 10 to 15 minutes, the glue should have dried completely. Check the top of your lashes by gently tapping it with your finger to make sure the glue has adhered well. Once dry, you could curl them with an eyelash curler paying particular attention, so that the false lashes blend with the natural ones.
Make sure you don't press the curler too hard, as this may cause some false lashes to move and detach
Step 5. Put your makeup on
Once your false lashes have dried completely, finish putting on your makeup. Apply the eyeshadows and pencils you intended to use. Liquid eyeliner is especially good for false lashes because it helps hide glue lumps. Finally, apply mascara to both eyes for an even and natural result.
At this point the lashes should appear long, thick and natural
Step 6. Remove the false eyelashes
At the end of the day, take them off with the help of an oily makeup remover. Oil-based makeup removers soften the glue. This way you can start detaching individual lashes from the outer to the inner corner.
While more effective, oily makeup removers damage false lashes and prevent them from being recycled. If you plan on reusing them, look for an oil-free makeup remover
Warnings
- Avoid applying the false eyelashes in the inner rim of the eye, otherwise blinking will be annoying. Instead, place them on top of your natural lashes.
- Take off your false eyelashes before going to sleep. During the night they can move and irritate the eyes.
