Microsoft Publisher is an excellent tool for novice or intermediate editors from different industries. Flyers and brochures are printed very professionally. However, if you let the program make all the decisions for you, the document may be difficult to read. Hyphenation is set automatically. Therefore, many people need to remove the hyphenation to make the projects more readable.
Steps
Step 1. Disable the default settings in Microsoft Publisher 2010
- Open the program and select "File" and then choose "Options".
- You will see the "Editor Options" box on the left of the screen. Select "Advanced."
- You will see the box with the default options. At the bottom you will see "Auto Hyphenation for new text frames". Click this option.
- Close the edit panel.
Step 2. Use earlier versions of Microsoft Publisher to create a text frame with a document that does not have the hyphenation feature
- Put your cursor on the box.
- Choose "Tools" and then "Language" from the top toolbar.
- Select "Hyphenation" and check the box that says "Auto Hyphenation".
- Close the instruction box.
Step 3. Check the text to see if the hyphenation is appropriate in the document
You may need to change only a portion of the words in the box.
- Find the texts to be edited and manually remove the hyphenation by pressing the "delete" key.
- Resize the text box as desired.
Step 4. Always consider legibility
- Your project must be pleasing to the eye of the people. So each sentence should not be followed by a hyphen at the end.
- The brochures and flyers are full of words and images. Hence the hyphenation will often be questioned. Sometimes you will need it, sometimes you won't. You will have to decide every time.
- The hyphenation function must be deactivated in order not to interrupt words such as proper names, prices and important words. It is good to use the hyphenation with long words that leave large whitespace in a line of text.
Advice
- After removing this feature, you can enable it again by simply highlighting the text, clicking and selecting "Auto Hyphenation".
- Copy and paste text from Microsoft Word into a Publisher document and follow the instructions above to turn off hyphenation.
