If you have forgotten the parental control password of your old Playstation 2, or if you bought it used and can't watch any movies, you may not know what to do. Fortunately, it takes only a few steps to change your parental control password, or disable this feature entirely. Follow this guide to find out how.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Reset the Code
Step 1. Insert a restricted DVD movie
When it starts playing, the PS2 will ask you to change the parental controls in order to watch the movie. Press Yes and the PS2 will ask you for your password. Press the Select button on the controller, located in the center.
Step 2. Clear the password
By pressing Select, you will initiate the password reset function. The PS2 will ask you to enter your password to continue. Enter the password 7444 and press OK.
Step 3. Enter a new password
Enter an easy-to-remember password such as 0000 so that you can watch movies in the future smoothly. The PS2 will confirm that the password has been changed and take you back to the DVD menu. To turn off parental controls entirely, follow the next section.
Method 2 of 2: Disable Security
Step 1. Insert a DVD movie into the PS2
When playback begins, press the Select button on the controller. A menu of icons will open. Select the Stop icon and press X. The menu will close and the movie will stop. Press Select again and press the Stop button again. The button will turn gray.
Step 2. Click the Setup icon
It looks like a toolbox or a briefcase. Use the right directional button on the controller to select the Custom Setup screen. Press Down on your controller to select Parental Control Settings. Press Right to select the item.
Step 3. Enter your password
If you followed the previous part of the guide and reset your password, enter the one you created now.
Step 4. Choose the protection level
Scroll until you reach the Level option. You can disable parental controls by moving the slider up past number 8. Press Select several times to close all menus.
Step 5. Reset the PS2
When you've changed your parental control settings and exited the menus, you can reset your PS2 to save your changes. Press the power button located on the front of the console to do this.
