Create a long-lasting bouquet without the need for water. You can make one using jeweled flowers, flowers made from book pages, or fabric flowers for an alternative and elegant look. A bouquet made with brooches is a stylish choice for a bridal bouquet or a vase of flowers. Learn how to make a brooch bouquet.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Part One: Buy the Badges
Step 1. Ask your family if you can use brooches that have been inherited from grandmothers, aunts, sisters and cousins
Using family pins you will customize the project by creating a souvenir object.
If your family members want the brooches back, you can take the bouquet apart later
Step 2. Find cheap pins at DIY stores or department stores
Give yourself a few months to look for the pins. You can come back to these stores during the sales and buy the same pins at a reduced price and save money
Step 3. Buy collectibles on Etsy, eBay or Amazon
If you have a particular style of brooches in mind, such as enamel, rhinestone or gemstone that you want to display in your bouquet, it will take a little more time to get enough brooches.
Step 4. Add clip earrings, pendants and hair accessories to your pin collection
These items look very similar to brooches when placed in a bouquet.
Step 5. Collect about 50-80 pins in all
The number will depend on the diameter of the brooches and the size of the bouquet.
Method 2 of 4: Part Two: Purchase Floral Material
Step 1. Purchase several things at a DIY store that you would use to make a fresh flower bouquet
- Purchase green florist wire. These will become the stems of your brooches. Make sure you have at least one for each pin and 2 for the larger pins.
- Find some florist tape. You will use this to tie the metal wires together.
- Purchase a large synthetic flower, such as a hydrangea, in the color of your choice. Inserting the brooches on the flower will help you fill in the empty spaces and prevent your brooches from being damaged by touching each other. You can also choose a dozen different flowers or types of synthetic flowers to alternate with the brooches.
- Buy some tape. You will want to wrap the stem of the bouquet with ribbon to create a beautiful and elegant base.
- Buy pliers with pointed tips, wire cutting scissors, and a hot glue gun (with sticks of hot glue) if you don't already have them.
Step 2. Set up a work table at home
Plug the hot gun into the mains and put everything you need together.
The hot glue gun is essential for brooches that break while creating the bouquet. Cheap brooches often break or lose pieces. Glue the pieces together immediately so you can use them anyway
Method 3 of 4: Part Three: Create the Stems for the Brooches
Step 1. Get a pin
Close the clip and secure it with hot glue if necessary.
Decide if your pin will be safe if you run the wire through the clasp. Some brooches break or have a weak closure. In this case, try wrapping the wire in front of the closure, between the petals or stones
Step 2. Insert the green wire through the clasp or around the front of the pin
Step 3. Pull it so that the middle of the thread is wrapped around the brooch and the two ends are the same length
Use the pliers to wrap the wire around the delicate pins. Bend the wire on top with pliers, so that it is firmly connected to the clasp
Step 4. Start wrapping the two ends of the thread approximately 2.5 cm below the point where it connects to the pin
Step 5. Wrap the masking tape around the twisted wire
Florist tape can be faint, so make sure it overlaps as you wrap it around the wire.
Press the ends of the tape firmly so that it sticks well
Step 6. Repeat the process with each of your pins
Make a pile of ready-made stems, until you think you have enough to start creating the bouquet.
Creating the stems for the brooches can take a long time. It would be a good idea to make the 50-80 stems in more tranches
Method 4 of 4: Part Four: Prepare your Bouquet
Step 1. Choose the base for your bouquet
You can purchase a bouquet base or a Styrofoam block to have a larger base to hold your bouquet.
- In place of a bouquet base, find a floating foam toy tube and cut it to the length of the base or the height of the vase. The central hole will allow you to tuck the stems into it.
- You don't necessarily need a bouquet base. You can add synthetic flower sticks or stems to make the base wider. Group them and tie them with duct tape to form a wider base.
Step 2. Get the hydrangea stems
Insert the stems of the brooches into the spaces between the flower petals.
Be sure to alternate the color and size of pins that are close together
Step 3. Place synthetic flowers between the pin stems if desired
String the stems of the brooches together until you have a full bouquet shape.
Step 4. Wrap the stems with multiple layers of masking tape once you have the composition you want
Cut the metal stems if they are too long
Step 5. Insert the clustered stems into the bouquet base or foam tube if you have chosen to use them
Step 6. Glue one end of the ribbon to the top of the stem, bouquet holder or foam tube
Use hot glue. Let the foam dry thoroughly before you begin wrapping the ribbon.
Step 7. Wrap the ribbon in a spiral around the bouquet
When you get to the bottom. You can wrap the final part vertically with the tape and rewind it horizontally, or you can leave the stems exposed for about 1.5 - 2.5 cm
Step 8. Put a strip of glue at the end of the ribbon
Thread the end of the ribbon into the other ribbon bands on top.
Step 9. Decorate it however you like
You can twist a necklace around the base or sew pearls over it.
