This article explains how to convert a text file written on WordPad into the native format of a Microsoft Word Office Open XML ("docx") document using a computer.
Steps
Step 1. Open the WordPad file you want to convert
Search for the text file you want to convert and click on its icon twice in a row in order to open it in WordPad.
Alternatively, you can right-click on the text file, then select "Open with" and open it with Microsoft Word
Step 2. Click on the File tab in the WordPad window
This button is located next to the "Home" tab in the upper left corner. A drop-down menu will open.
Step 3. Hover your mouse cursor over the Save As option in the "File" menu
The save options will appear on the right.
Step 4. Select Office Open XML Document
This option will allow you to save a copy of the document in Microsoft Word's native "docx" format.
Step 5. Click Save in the pop-up window
Select the folder where you want to save the file in "docx" format, then click on the "Save" button.
- Make sure the "Office Open XML Document (*.docx)" option is selected in the "Save as type" field at the bottom of the window.
- Saving a copy of the text file in "docx" format will not remove the original WordPad file, modify it or affect it in any way. The version in "docx" format will be saved as a separate copy.
