Are you trying to listen to your Windows Media Player files with iTunes? Are you trying to convert them to MP3? Here are some useful tips.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Method 1: Free online conversion
Step 1. Search online for a free file converter
Type "convert.wav to MP3" into a search engine and look for a site that offers a free service.
Step 2. Go to the section of the site where the conversion is offered
Sometimes you have to browse through the site to find the service offered.
Step 3. Import the.wav file you want to convert to MP3
Step 4. Choose the format to convert to if needed
Some sites will ask you to specify the format to convert to.
Step 5. Decide where you want to send the file
If necessary, enter an email address to which the converted file will be sent. In some cases, the file will be available as a document for download on the site itself. In other cases, you will need to enter an email address to be able to retrieve the file.
If you are afraid of receiving junk mail, use a clone email or create your own. You can use this account to recover any file
Step 6. Identify the "Convert" button
The file must be sent to your email address. In the case of very large files, it will be sent in compressed form.
Method 2 of 3: Second method: iTunes
Step 1. Open iTunes
Step 2. Navigate to iTunes → Preferences → Import Settings
- If you are using iTunes 7 or earlier, you will need to go to the "Advanced" tab before you can access "Import Settings".
- If you are using iTunes 8 or a newer version, going to "Preferences" will automatically take you to the page where you can find "Advanced".
Step 3. Set "Import Using" to "MP3 Encoder"
Step 4. Choose a setting preference
Next to "Settings" choose 128 kbps, 160 kbps, or 192 kbps.
If you want a custom setting, click "Custom …" and select the choices for Stereo Bit Rate, Sampling and Channels. In most cases, it is best to set the channel to "Stereo"
Step 5. Click "OK" to close the Import Settings window
Step 6. Click "OK" to close the General Preferences window
Step 7. Select one or more.wav files in iTunes
Step 8. Create an MP3 version of the file
Depending on the version of iTunes, do this in one of the following ways:
- Having the files selected, navigate to the "Advanced" tab and choose Create MP3 version.
- Right click and click "Create MP3 Version".
Method 3 of 3: Third method: Audacity
Step 1. Download the LAME MP3 encoder that's right for you
Step 2. Unzip LAME's archived folder and remember its location
Step 3. Download and open the free multi-platform Audacity
Step 4. Select the "File" and choose the "Open" option
Step 5. Place the desired WAV file on your computer hard drive
A file map will appear on the main Audacity screen.
Step 6. Select the File tab and choose the "Export as MP3" option
Step 7. Answer the instruction by identifying the MP3 encoder in the location where you have chosen to decompress it
The file will be called lame_enc.dll on Windows and libmp3lame.so on Macintosh. You will only be asked to do this the first time you use the "Export as MP3" option.
Step 8. Select the location where you would like the converted MP3 file to appear and rename the file if necessary
If you are converting a.wav file to.mp3 just to be able to play the file in iTunes, then the iTunes music folder is an ideal location for the converted file.
