The teenage Emo subculture is one of the most misunderstood. If you want to know how to adopt an emo lifestyle in middle school, you won't have to worry anymore. This article is for you.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Initial Steps
Step 1. Try to understand why you want to be emo
If you want to do this to tone yourself up, to get accepted by a group of people, to impress your friends, or to scare people off, you are doing it for the wrong reasons. The result will be to lose your personality and be labeled as an imposter. If, on the other hand, you are feeling truly emo and just need some guidance, you are probably just trying to express your true nature.
Step 2. Try to understand the consequences
By adopting an emo lifestyle you are making the choice not to integrate. While this shouldn't be your only concern in life, you need to understand that not getting mixed up in the crowd often comes with many unpleasant consequences, such as bullying, harassment, insulting, and misunderstanding. If you have the strength to deal with other students and maybe even your parents, go ahead. But if you don't want to suffer from the numerous unpleasantness mentioned above, perhaps you may decide to keep a low profile and not perform like the different guy.
Don't let people hurt you with their ignorance
Step 3. Love who you are and what you look like
Don't listen to other people's comments, your style reflects your feelings.
Method 2 of 3: Style
Step 1. Hair
The classic emo hairstyle is based on dark hair with lighter colored streaks. You can try different hairstyles if you are a man or a woman, and if you want to keep your hair long or short.
- If you are a guy, go for a short layered hairstyle with asymmetrical bangs. If you have long hair and want to keep it, keep a long fringe that can cover your forehead and one eye.
- If you are a girl, you can keep your hair long and scale it or cut it shorter with shaved bangs.
- Dyeing hair in extreme colors is another very common practice in emo culture.
Step 2. Clothing
For boys and girls, band t-shirts and skinny jeans are synonymous with the emo style. However, you can mix light colors with bright ones (red and black, for example).
You can also add accessories to your clothing, such as pins or emblems. Belts with unique buckles are also used a lot by emo guys
Step 3. Try to customize your uniform if you need to wear one
Do you have to bring your school jacket and checkered clothes? If you have to adhere to a dress code or wear a uniform, don't panic.
- Try wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt under your uniform and rolling up the sleeves.
- Put pins on your tie, bag and jacket.
- Wear knee-length socks or Converse shoes.
- Leggings, tights and fishnet stockings look good under school skirts. If you have to wear tights of a certain color, try tearing it or making ladders.
- Wear bracelets or wristbands.
Step 4. Piercings
If your parents let you do them, piercings are a trendy part of the emo lifestyle. You can wear nose, eye and lip piercings.
Step 5. Try carrying a beautiful bag or something that won't get you in trouble
If you don't mind getting in trouble, then dare more. But be careful what you choose.
Method 3 of 3: Learn About the Emo Lifestyle
Step 1. Understand the culture
The more you know about emo, the fewer obstacles you will face. A poor understanding of this lifestyle often leads to following empty stereotypes and losing your individuality. Don't stop on the surface and delve into the true meaning of emo. Don't pretend you know things you don't know and don't be narrow-minded.
Step 2. Get in touch with your emotions
Show empathy for other people. Emos are in touch with their emotions, making them the ideal people to talk to when you're feeling down.
Step 3. Be a good student
Being emo doesn't mean being put off in all subjects. Having good grades will improve the attitude that teachers and parents have towards you, especially if they don't like your new style. Do your homework and deliver it on time. Study for questions and homework. Be punctual and polite.
Step 4. Listen to the music
Expand your musical tastes not only by listening to emo bands, but also screamo, hardcore, post hardcore, dark cabaret and electronic. Go to concerts. The more involved you are in the emo music scene, the better you can understand this culture and avoid looking like a poseroelvnl.
Advice
- If people insult you, don't let that push you not to be yourself. Ignore their offenses and continue on your way.
- Going to concerts and meeting other emo people is a great way to learn more about the culture and find great friends who share your interests.
- Don't call yourself emo. Real people aren't limited to labels. You can follow that lifestyle, but don't tell people "I'm emo".
- Self-harm has nothing to do with emo! Always remember that.
- Writing is a great way to express yourself. You can start with poetry and songs. Follow your instinct.
- Don't think that just because you are emo you have to cut or injure yourself. That's not what it means to be emo.
- Always believe in yourself!
- Don't feel like you have to be depressed or suicidal to be accepted. It is another stereotype. While emos can be deep, not everyone cuts themselves off and thinks about death.
- Don't tell anyone you're an emo, no one would take you seriously!
Warnings
- Don't despise people who aren't emo. Just because they don't like that culture doesn't mean they're worth less than you. If you act like other people are not worthy of your attention, you will quickly lose your friends. Respect the differences,
- Never try to pierce your ears yourself (unless you are a professional). Otherwise you could risk an infection.
- Whatever you do, there will always be people who don't understand emo culture. They might call you depressed, suicidal, weird, or a loser. Don't waste your time trying to explain things to people. Be content with the fact that you are not narrow-minded.
