Here's how to attract beautiful red cardinals to your garden if you are in any location in North America.
Steps
Step 1. Make sure they are native to your area
Northern cardinals are found throughout the eastern and central area of North America, from southern Canada to some areas of Mexico and Central America. These birds live as far north as Maine or Nova Scotia, Canada, south through Florida and the Gulf Coast. In the west they lie as far as South Dakota, Nebraska and Texas. They have also been introduced in California, Hawaii and Bermuda. Northern cardinals do not migrate, but live in the same place all year round.
Step 2. Purchase a bird feeder
Cardinals prefer a fixed base or platform over suspended structures. Put it on a piece of good soil. These birds also like to have a cover near the feeder, so place it near trees or shrubs.
Step 3. Provide them with lard in the winter so that both the red cardinals and the other birds will have more energy
Step 4. They can also eat on the ground
If you have a patch of land away from low bushes or shrubs where predators can hide, you can also spread the seeds there.
Step 5. Place the sunflower seeds in the feeder
The black ones are the cardinals' favorites. If you are concerned that they can create a mess in your garden, buy those that have already been peeled. Cardinals also like safflower and white sorghum seeds.
Step 6. Place a bird trough a few meters away
If you live in an area where there are frosts in winter, a heated tub is very useful for your cardinals.
Step 7. Observe the birds that come to your garden
They eat the most in the morning and evening, so remember this when you want to spot them.
