Do you like blushing but don't like all the chemicals contained in the products on the market? Thankfully, it's easy to make blush at home, using ingredients you may already have in your pantry. This article will tell you how to make compact, powder and cream blushes. In addition, it will give you some tips on how to create very simple blushes and the so-called "rouge", which is a kind of lipstick for cheeks.
Ingrediants
Compact Blush ingredients
- 3 tablespoons of water
- talcum powder
- 1-6 drops of red dye
Ingredients for Powder Blush
- ½ teaspoon of maranta starch or corn starch
- ½ teaspoon of cocoa powder
- ½ teaspoon of lean hibiscus or beetroot
- ground ginger, as needed (optional)
- ground nutmeg, as needed (optional)
Ingredients for the Cream Blush
- 1 teaspoon of shea butter
- ½ teaspoon of emulsifying wax
- 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel
- ½ - 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder
- ½ - 1 teaspoon of mica powder
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Prepare Compact Blush
Step 1. The first type of blush you will prepare is the compact one
This blush looks a lot like commercial blushes, except it doesn't contain any dangerous chemical additives. You can apply it like any other blush, using a brush or sponge. This section will tell you how to make compact blush.
Step 2. Get a bowl to mix the ingredients
You will only need a small one. Make sure it's clean, or you risk contaminating the product.
Step 3. In the bowl, mix the food coloring and water
You will need 3 tablespoons of water. The amount of dye will depend on how dark - or light - you want the blush to be. Here are some tips to get you started:
- For a light pink blush, use 1 or 2 drops of red dye.
- For a medium pink blush, use 3 to 4 drops of red dye.
- For a dark pink blush, use 5 or 6 drops of red dye.
Step 4. You can add other colors to the blush as well
If you don't want traditional pink, mix other colors to get the shade you want. The yellow food coloring will give the blush orange tones, while the blue will give the violet tones. Start with one drop at a time, and be sure to mix well. Continue until you have the color you like.
- If the blush is too orange or too purple, add a drop or two of red dye.
- If you want to make a blush of a soft color, you will need to obtain the shade you want by adding drops of water.
Step 5. Add a little talcum powder and mix
You will need to get a thick paste. Try adding one or two teaspoons of baby powder at a time. If you don't have talcum powder, you can replace it with corn starch or maranta starch. The blush will be moist and dark, but it will become a little lighter when dried.
Step 6. Transfer the mixture to a container
You can use whatever you like, but if it's shallow, like an old make-up container, it'll do better. You will apply this blush with a brush. Make sure the container has a lid.
Step 7. Match the blush
The first time you put the product in the container, it may be lumpy. Use a spoon, knife, or spatula to even out the surface, so that it is flush with the rim of the container, just like a commercial blush. If you have any leftover product, you can decide whether to throw it away or put it in another container.
Press the blush. If it's still lumpy and damp, place a paper towel over the surface of the blush and press it down with something hard and smooth, like a spice jar or block of wood
Step 8. Let the blush dry
Put the container in a warm, dry place, preferably where it receives direct sunlight. Open the lid and leave the blush on for 24 hours. At this point, the blush will be dry and ready to use. Depending on the amount of water you added, your product may take longer to dry.
Step 9. Use the blush
You can apply the product as you would any commercial blush, using a brush or sponge. Make sure the lid of the container is tightly closed when you are not using the blush.
Method 2 of 4: Making Powder Blush
Step 1. The second type of blush you can make is powder blush
This type of blush is very similar to the mineral one you find in perfumery, with the difference that it costs much less. You can apply it with a brush or a feather duster. This section will tell you how to make your own powder blush.
Step 2. Get a bowl to mix the ingredients
Since you will be working with small quantities, you will only need a small one (a cup will work as well).
Step 3. Pour the beetroot or hibiscus powder into the bowl
You will need about ½ tsp. Sift the powder and break up any lumps using a fork. If the powder is still too coarse, you will need to grind it using a coffee grinder or mortar.
- If the beet powder is in a capsule, open the capsule so that the powder comes out, then throw away the wrapper. Keep doing this until you have the amount of powder you want.
- You can also use freeze-dried or dehydrated strawberries and raspberries. Grind them into a very fine powder using a coffee grinder or mortar, which you will then add to the other ingredients.
Step 4. Add the maranta starch and mix
You will need ½ teaspoon of starch. After pouring it into the bowl, mix well with a fork. You can also transfer everything to another container by passing the mixture through a sieve: this way, not only will the ingredients mix better, but you will also eliminate any lumps.
If you don't have maranta starch, you can replace it with corn starch
Step 5. If necessary, correct the hue
If the blush is too dark, you can lighten it by adding a little maranta starch. If it's too light, add some cocoa powder. Stir again after adding fixes.
Step 6. Give the blush a bright touch
You can add a shimmery hue to the product by adding ground ginger or nutmeg. You can also use mica powder. Once you have added one of these ingredients, mix the mixture well using a fork.
- Ground ginger will give a clear brilliant touch.
- Ground cinnamon will give a dark shimmer.
Step 7. You could also add some essential oils
Essential oils are not needed, but they will help the powder adhere better to the skin. They will also give the blush a nice scent. Pour a drop or two of essential oil into the mixture and mix using a fork. Keep in mind that adding a liquid could cause the blush to become lumpy.
Use floral or sweet fragrances such as chamomile, lavender, rose, or vanilla
Step 8. Decorate the container
If you don't want to leave it as it is, you can decorate the blush container with adhesive glitter, or create a personalized label.
Method 3 of 4: Prepare the Cream Blush
Step 1. The third type of blush you can make is the cream one
Obviously, it must not contain dangerous chemical additives. You will have to decide exactly what to put in it and what color it will be. This section will tell you how to make a cream blush. To apply it you will need to use your fingers or a make-up sponge.
Step 2. Prepare the water bath containers
Fill the pot that you will put on the fire to a height of about 5 cm with water and place the other container on top. Put everything on the stove and turn on medium heat.
If you do not have a special pot for cooking in a bain-marie, you can use a large pan that you will fill with water and a bowl to put on top. The bottom of the bowl must not touch the water
Step 3. Measure the quantities of shea butter and emulsifying wax and place them in the double boiler
You will need a teaspoon of shea butter and ½ of emulsifying wax.
Step 4. Melt the shea butter and wax in a double boiler
Heat the two ingredients until they dissolve. Make sure you mix well with a spoon or spatula. This way, the butter and wax will mix well, producing a uniform mixture.
Step 5. Remove the double boiler from the heat
When the shea butter and wax have melted completely, turn off the stove and move the pot to a heat-resistant surface. The mixture must be semi-transparent and without lumps.
Step 6. Add the aloe and mix until the mixture is homogeneous
When the mixture has cooled slightly, add a tablespoon of aloe gel. Mix everything using a spoon or spatula. Use clear aloe gel instead of colored gel.
Step 7. Pour in the mica powder and cocoa a little at a time
Continue until you have the color you want. You can use whatever mica color you like, but pinks and reds will give better and more natural results. The cocoa powder will darken the blush. If you want a lighter blush, then put on less cocoa. You will need to add ½ to 1 teaspoon of each powder, depending on the color you want to achieve.
To make sure you get the right shade, dip a spoon in the product, let it cool and then touch it to your cheek
Step 8. Transfer the mixture to a small jar and let it solidify
Once you have the right color, transfer the blush into a small sealable jar with the help of a spoon or spatula. Put the closed container in a cool place until the product has solidified, then seal the jar with a lid.
Wait 24 hours before using the blush. This way it will have time to solidify
Step 9. Decorate the container
You could embellish the blush jar by adding a personalized label or adhesive glitter.
Method 4 of 4: Making the Belletto and Blush Very Simple
Step 1. Make a quick and easy makeup using beets, olive oil and honey
You will need a peeled and chopped beet, 4 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of honey. Put all the ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. Transfer the makeup to a small sealable container and store it in the refrigerator. The product will keep for one month.
If you freeze it, the paint will last two months
Step 2. Create a very simple cream blush
Sometimes you don't have all the ingredients available or you simply don't have time to melt the butter and wax. In these cases, just add 1 or 2 teaspoons of colored mineral powder to 1 tablespoon of moisturizer and transfer everything into a small container.
Step 3. Create a cream blush using a lipstick
You can also prepare the blush using a lipstick and coconut oil. You will need at least half lipstick (not transparent) and a teaspoon of coconut oil. Melt the lipstick in the microwave (for 15-30 seconds) or in a spoon held over a candle flame. Mix the dissolved lipstick with the coconut oil and transfer everything to a small sealable container. Wait for the mixture to cool before using it.
Advice
- If you need to use the blush right away, do not add water and mix only the food coloring with the talcum powder.
- You can also use other powdered foods in place of beets, such as strawberries and raspberries.
- Decorate the blush container to add a personalized touch.
- Prepare a little more powder or cream blush and use it to give gifts.
Warnings
- If you are allergic to nuts, do not use butter or other substances based on nuts, hazelnuts, etc.
- If you decide to add essential oils, make sure you are not allergic to the components. You can do a test by applying a little diluted essential oil on the inside of the elbow, then wait 24 hours to see if any reaction develops.
