This article explains how to embed a video into an email using the Gmail and Outlook web client on a computer. Although it is not possible to embed the YouTube (or other manufacturers') media player directly in any email client, Gmail and Outlook support this type of service and therefore allow you to play a movie directly by opening the email that contains it., without having to use a third party program or download the video to your computer.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using Gmail
Step 1. Log in to the Gmail website
Type the URL https://www.mail.google.com/ into the address bar of the internet browser. If you are already logged into your Google account you will be redirected to your Gmail inbox.
If you are not logged in yet, you will need to enter your Gmail email address (or the phone number associated with your profile) and the security password
Step 2. Press the Write button
It is red in color and located at the top left of the page. A pop-up window will appear at the bottom right of the page that will allow you to create a new email message.
Step 3. Enter the address of the recipient of the message
You will need to type it into the "To" text field at the top of the "New Message" window. The address to which the e-mail in question is to be sent must necessarily belong to the Gmail or Outlook domain.
The email addresses that are part of the Outlook web service also include those of "Hotmail", "Live" and "Outlook"
Step 4. Insert the video into the email
Click the "Attach file" icon in the shape of a paperclip located in the lower left part of the "New Message" window, select the video to use and press the button You open.
- Gmail places a limit of 25MB on the maximum file size that can be attached to each email message. To get around it, follow these instructions: select the "Insert file using Drive" icon characterized by the Google Drive logo, choose the file to use and press the button insert.
- If you need to use a YouTube video, copy the corresponding URL and paste it directly into the body of the email. Within the message, the media player panel will appear, with which the selected movie will be played when the recipient opens the message.
Step 5. Press the Submit button
It is located in the lower left corner of the "New Message" window. The email you created will be sent to the indicated recipient. When the latter opens the message, you can click the small box in which the preview of the video is displayed to start playing it.
Method 2 of 2: Use Outlook
Step 1. Copy the YouTube video URL
Go to the YouTube page for the video you want to insert in the email, highlight the URL, select the highlighted text with the right mouse button (if you are using a trackpad use two fingers to simulate the right mouse button) and choose the option Copy from the context menu that will appear.
- You will need to perform this procedure using a computer as mobile links are not supported by Outlook, which will therefore not insert the video into the email as a media player.
- Unfortunately, videos stored on your computer cannot be embedded directly into emails created with the Outlook web interface.
Step 2. Log in to the Outlook website
Type the URL https://www.outlook.com/ into the address bar of the internet browser. If you are already logged into your email account you will be automatically redirected to your Outlook mailbox.
If you are not logged in yet, you will need to provide your Outlook email address (or phone number associated with your profile) and the security password
Step 3. Press the + New Message button
It is located in the upper left of the Outlook page, just above the "Inbox" entry. The panel for creating a new email will appear in the right part of the browser window.
Step 4. Enter the address of the recipient of the message
You will need to type it into the "To" text field at the top of the "New Message" window. The address to which the e-mail in question is to be sent must necessarily belong to the Gmail domain.
Step 5. Paste the link of the chosen video into the body of the email
Select an empty spot in the message composition box with the right mouse button (if you are using a trackpad, click it with two fingers), then choose the option Paste from the context menu that will appear.
Step 6. Press the Submit button
It is placed in the lower left corner of the box to compose the message. The email you created will be sent to the indicated recipient. When the latter opens the message, you can click the small box in which the preview of the video is displayed to start playing it.
Advice
There are several paid web services that allow you to embed videos directly into an email. Be careful when using these types of services to create marketing strategies that use videos, as they may give unpredictable results because they cannot normally be viewed by mobile users
Warnings
- If the recipient of your email has configured their email client so that images contained in email messages do not appear automatically when you open the email, they will not be able to see the pane in which it is. content the video.
- Gmail and Outlook web services don't support the use of mobile links, which means you'll need to get the classic URL (for desktop and laptop platforms) of the video before you can embed it within the email message.
