Removing a chewing gum from an LCD TV is not an easy thing. LCD screens are made of soft films which are very delicate and can be damaged easily. If you've already tried what the manufacturer recommends or your TV is out of warranty, this method may prove useful. However, proceed with great caution.
Steps
Step 1. Proceed only if there is no alternative and you are aware of the potential risks
Check the manual to find recommended products and methods to use on the LCD TV screen before approach. Keep in mind that if the TV is still under warranty, using another product may void the warranty.
You should read the Warnings section (below) before removing the rubber from the tv
Step 2. Unplug the TV
Beware that the TV cools down for a few minutes.
Step 3. Mix 1 part white vinegar with one part distilled water in a spray bottle
Do not use plain water which may leave residue on the screen.
Step 4. Spray the solution onto a microfiber cloth, or a soft, cotton-free cloth
Moisten the cloth, do not get it wet. Do not spray directly on the TV.
Step 5. Gently rub the rubber with the cloth
The vinegar should soften the gum. Try wiping only the eraser and not the screen.
Step 6. Very gently, try to remove the eraser from the screen
You may have to scrub several times before you can remove it. Use a new cloth or a new piece of cloth each time you wipe. During the process, remember not to press too hard on the cloth and screen. LCD screens are delicate and too much pressure could permanently damage them.
Step 7. Make sure the screen is dry before using it
Do not turn the TV back on before it is completely dry.
Advice
- Spray the solution on the cloth while staying away from the TV.
- Avoid touching the screen with your fingers. You may leave fingerprints on the screen.
Warnings
- The quick drying effect of the TV's heat can cause permanent streaks on the LCD TV screen. Be sure to turn off the appliance before removing the chewing gum.
- Napkins and sheets of paper can scratch the screen. Use a microfiber cloth.
- Check the TV warranty to avoid operations that could invalidate it.
- Damage due to pressure on the screen and splashing of liquids on the screen may not be covered under warranty.
- Do not use solvents such as acetone, alcohol and ammonia, they could dissolve the plastic of the screen.
- Pressing too hard on the screen can cause dead pixels.
- Remove the cloth label before using it on the screen.
- Use distilled water. Ordinary water may leave white spots on the screen.
