WhatsApp for iPhone adds to the list of favorites all the contacts who in turn use the application. You can supplement this list with other phone numbers, but you can only limit yourself to inviting them to use WhatsApp. This is an auto-generated list, but you can rearrange it and remove some unwanted contacts.

The list of favorites is only available for this type of device; in Android phones, the contacts are all embedded in the address book.
