This article shows you how you can send a large file from one computer to another using an email or cloud service. The easiest way to do this is to use one of the many clouding services available on the web, but you can also use a service called WeTransfer that allows you to share files up to 2 GB in size without the need to create an account.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Using Google Drive
Step 1. Log in to the Google Drive website
Use the browser of your choice and the URL https://drive.google.com/. If you are logged in to your Google account, you will be automatically taken to the Drive web interface.
If you are not logged in to your account yet, you will need to press the blue button Go to Drive placed in the center of the page and enter your profile credentials (e-mail address and password).
Step 2. Press the New button
It is blue in color and is located in the upper left part of the page that appears. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 3. Choose the File Upload option
It is one of the items in the menu that appeared. A dialog box will appear.
If you need to upload an entire folder and its contents, you will need to select the menu option Upload a folder.
Step 4. Select the files to upload
Navigate to the folder on your computer where the items to upload are located, then select them with the mouse.
- To perform a multiple selection of files, hold down Ctrl (on Windows systems) or ⌘ Command (on Mac) while clicking on each individual file to include in the transfer.
- If you need to select a folder, simply click it with the left mouse button.
Step 5. Press the Open button
It is located in the lower right corner of the window. The selected files will be copied to Google Drive.
If you have chosen a folder, you will need to press the button Load.
Step 6. Select all the files you want to share via email
To perform a multiple selection of files, hold down Ctrl (on Windows systems) or ⌘ Command (on Mac) while clicking on each individual file to include in the transfer
Step 7. Click the "Share" icon
It features a stylized human silhouette and mathematical symbol +. It's located at the top right of the Drive web interface.
Step 8. Enter the recipient's email address
Type in the email address of the person you want to send the content you've uploaded to Drive to. Use the "People" text field.
Step 9. Make sure the file can be downloaded successfully without any problems
Press the button on the right of the "People" field characterized by the following icon
then select the option Can edit from the context menu that will appear.
Step 10. Press the Submit button
It is colored blue and is located in the lower left corner of the dialog box. The link to be able to download the file will be sent to the person indicated.
If you want to send the file to an email address that does not belong to Google domains, you will need to select the "Send link" check button and press the button again Send.
Step 11. Download the file to the second device
To be able to download the content, you or the recipient of the e-mail will need to press the button You open present in the body of the e-mail message and click the "Download" icon
located at the top right of the page.
Users who have an email address that does not belong to the Gmail domain will have to press the button ⋮ at the top right of the page and choose the option Download from the drop-down menu that appeared.
Method 2 of 4: Use Microsoft OneDrive
Step 1. Log in to the Microsoft OneDrive service website
Use the internet browser of your choice and the URL https://www.onedrive.com/. You will be automatically redirected to the Microsoft OneDrive web interface, but only if you have already logged into the service with your account.
If you haven't logged into your Microsoft account yet, you'll need to do so now by providing your email address and security password
Step 2. Press the Upload button
It has an arrow icon pointing up and is located at the top of the page. A small drop-down menu will appear.
Step 3. Choose the File option
It is one of the items in the drop-down menu that appeared. A new dialog will appear.
If you need to upload an entire folder and its contents, you will need to select the menu option Folder.
Step 4. Select a file
Simply click the icon of the item you want to transfer.
- To perform a multiple selection of files, hold down Ctrl (on Windows systems) or ⌘ Command (on Mac) while clicking on each individual file to include in the transfer.
- If you need to select a folder, simply click it with the left mouse button.
Step 5. Press the Open button
It is located in the lower right corner of the window. The selected files will be copied to OneDrive.
If you have chosen a folder, you will need to press the button Load.
Step 6. Press the Share button
It's located at the top left of the OneDrive GUI. A pop-up window will appear.
Step 7. Select the "Allow editing" checkbox
It is placed at the top of the window.
Step 8. Select the Email option
It is listed at the bottom of the window.
Step 9. Enter the recipient's email address
Type the e-mail address of the person to whom you want to send the file in question using the appropriate text field that appears at the top of the window.
Step 10. Press the Share button
It is located in the lower right part of the window. In this way the person indicated will be sent an HTML link with which he can download the file in question.
Step 11. Download the file to the second device
To be able to download the content, you or the recipient of the email will need to open the notification message and select the link View in OneDrive, then choose the option Download visible at the top of the page.
If the OneDrive web page prompts you to log in, click the icon in the shape of X located in the upper right corner of the dialog box.
Method 3 of 4: Using Dropbox
Step 1. Log in to the Dropbox website
Use the internet browser of your choice and the URL https://www.dropbox.com/. You will be automatically redirected to the Dropbox web interface, but only if you are already logged in to the service with your account.
If you haven't logged into your Dropbox account yet, you'll need to do so now by providing your email address and security password
Step 2. Choose the Upload File option
It features a blue button on the right side of the page. A dialog box will appear where you can select the files to transfer.
Step 3. Select a file
Access the folder where the file in question is stored and simply click on its icon.
To perform a multiple selection of files, hold down Ctrl (on Windows systems) or ⌘ Command (on Mac) while clicking on each individual file to include in the transfer
Step 4. Press the Open button
It is located in the lower right corner of the window. The selected files will be copied to Dropbox.
Step 5. Press the Share button
It will appear to the right of the file as soon as the mouse pointer is over its icon. A pop-up window will appear.
The button Share it will not appear until the mouse cursor is positioned on the icon of the file to be shared.
Step 6. Choose the Create Link option
It is located on the right side of the page. An HTML link will be created to the file in question.
Step 7. Select the Copy link item
It is located directly to the right of the link that has just been created. The HTML link to the file will automatically be copied to the system "clipboard", so you can paste it wherever you want.
Step 8. Email the link to download the file
Access the web interface (or e-mail client) of your e-mail address, create a new message, enter the recipients in the "To" text field, paste the link in question into the body of the message using the key combination Ctrl + V (on Windows systems) or ⌘ Command + V (on Mac) and finally press the "Send" button.
Sharing the link to download the file in question in this way will give you the certainty that even users without a Dropbox account will be able to access the file
Step 9. Download the file to the second device
In order to download the contents, you or the recipient of the e-mail will have to open the notification message, select the link contained within, choose the option Download visible at the top right of the page and select the option Direct download from the drop-down menu that appeared.
If the Dropbox web page prompts you to log in, click the icon in the shape of X located in the upper right corner of its dialog box.
Method 4 of 4: Using WeTransfer
Step 1. Log in to the WeTransfer website
Use the internet browser of your choice and the following URL
Step 2. Select the Take me to Free link
It is located in the lower left part of the main page of the service.
If the option is not visible, you can skip this step
Step 3. Press the Accept button
It is blue in color and is located at the bottom left of the page. A small form will appear where you can enter your data transfer information.
Step 4. Click the Add File icon
It is located at the top of the module. A new dialog will appear.
Step 5. Select a file
Access the folder where the file in question is stored and simply click on its icon.
- To perform a multiple selection of files, hold down Ctrl (on Windows systems) or ⌘ Command (on Mac) while clicking on each individual file to include in the transfer.
- You can select a maximum of 2 GB of data.
Step 6. Enter the necessary information to perform the transfer
Fill in the following text fields:
- Send an email to - enter up to 20 message recipients. Make sure you press the Spacebar to separate the email addresses of the people you want to send the file to;
- Your e-mail - you must enter your e-mail address;
Step 7. Press the Transfer button
It is blue in color and located at the bottom of the module. In this way, the selected data will be uploaded to the WeTransfer platform and automatically sent to all recipients indicated in the "Send an email to" field.
Step 8. Download the file received by e-mail
In order to download the local data, you or the recipient of the message will have to open the e-mail, select the link Get your files and press the button Download.
