Frozen broccoli is a nutritious and practical alternative to fresh ones. Being already cut, washed and blanched, they save time in the kitchen. You can cook them on the stove, in the oven or in the microwave.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Reheating Frozen Broccoli on the Fire
Step 1. Bring the water to a boil
Fill a saucepan with water and pour a tablespoon of salt into it. Turn the heat to high and wait for it to come to a boil.
Before being frozen, the broccoli is blanched (i.e. cooked in boiling water and then dipped in ice to stop the cooking process). Since they are pre-cooked, you simply need to reheat them
Step 2. Cook them in boiling water for 2-4 minutes
They should turn bright green and soften. At this point, turn off the heat and remove the pot from the stove.
Step 3. Drain, season and serve them
Place a colander in the sink and pour the contents of the pot into it. Plate the drained broccoli, season them to taste and serve hot.
Here are some of the most used seasonings: salt, pepper, butter and garlic salt
Method 2 of 4: Steam them on the stove
Step 1. Let some water simmer in a saucepan
Pour some water into the bottom of a pot, calculating a few centimeters in height, so that you can fit the steamer basket without touching the surface of the liquid. Let it heat and simmer over medium heat.
- To check the water level, place the basket in the pot before lighting the gas. That way, if it's too high you can fix it before it's too late.
- You will need at least a cup of water.
Step 2. Place the broccoli in the steamer basket
Once the water has started to simmer, place the basket above the surface of the liquid and place the frozen broccoli in it. Put the lid on the pot.
Step 3. Steam the broccoli until soft
Calculate 3-4 minutes. Remove the lid and test the consistency with the help of a fork. If they are soft, turn off the heat and remove the pot from the stove.
If they haven't softened, put the lid back on the pot and cook for another minute
Step 4. Season the broccoli and serve them
Remove the lid and set it aside. Remove the basket with the help of kitchen gloves. Plate the broccoli, season them to taste and serve them.
Here are some of the most used condiments: salt, pepper, olive oil and / or garlic salt
Method 3 of 4: Steam them in the Microwave Oven
Step 1. Prepare the broccoli for cooking
Place about 250g of frozen broccoli in a microwave-safe dish. Add 1-2 tablespoons of water and put the lid on.
- If the dish does not have a lid, cover it with a dish suitable for use in the microwave oven.
- With the action of heat, the water will turn into steam, allowing broccoli to be cooked.
Step 2. Let them cook for 2 minutes, then mix them
Place the dish in the oven, set it to high and cook the broccoli for 2 minutes. At this point, remove the bowl from the microwave, remove the lid and mix them.
Steam will escape when you remove the lid. Use kitchen gloves to avoid burning yourself
Step 3. Let the broccoli cook for another 2 minutes
Cover the dish again and place it back in the microwave, allowing the broccoli to cook for an additional 2 minutes. Open the door, remove it and check that cooking has finished.
Are they still cold? Return the dish to the oven and let them cook at 1 minute intervals until cooked through
Step 4. Drain and serve them
Place a colander in the sink and pour the contents of the pan into it. Drain the water, plate the broccoli, season them to taste and serve them.
Here are some of the most used condiments: salt, pepper and / or butter
Method 4 of 4: Grilling them in the oven
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 200 ° C and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with a sheet of parchment paper of a suitable size (tear it directly from the roll)
You can also use non-stick cooking spray instead of parchment paper
Step 2. While you wait for the oven to heat up, season the broccoli with the oil
Place 250 g of frozen broccoli in a bowl, then pour in 1 tablespoon of olive oil and season to taste. Stir with the help of a spoon. Spread the seasoned broccoli (including excess oil) on the baking sheet.
Here are some of the most used seasonings: salt, pepper, garlic and / or garlic salt
Step 3. Cook the broccoli for 20 minutes, then flip it
Put them in the oven and set the timer for 20 minutes. At this point, remove the pan and mix them with a spatula.
As you mix them, try to redistribute any excess oil and seasoning as well
Step 4. Let the broccoli brown
Return the pan to the oven and set the timer for 10 minutes. At this point, observe them to see if they are golden. Remove them from the oven and serve them hot.
