Couldn't resist the special offer "10 pineapples for 10 euros"? And now you have 9 pineapples that will go bad if you don't freeze them. Don't worry: you got the real deal because you can keep this tasty and delicious fruit for up to six months. You just have to follow these simple directions to freeze pineapple!
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Freezing the Pineapple
Step 1. Cut the pineapple
You can cut it any way you like. First, remove the top and bottom with a sharp knife, then remove the rest of the skin and core. You can cut the pineapple into cubes, into small squares or into slices if you want to get circles. If you have a pineapple peel, use it to make it quicker and easier.
Step 2. Spread a sheet of parchment paper on a baking sheet
Make sure the pan is large enough to hold all the pineapple pieces, otherwise you'll need to use two.
Step 3. Spread the pineapple on the parchment paper
Leave some space between the pieces to prevent them from becoming a single layer of frozen fruit.
Step 4. Leave the pan in the freezer overnight
As soon as the pineapple chunks have frozen, you can take it out of the freezer.
Step 5. Put the pineapple in a vacuum container or bag to freeze food
Choose the container you prefer, as long as it is well sealed. You must remove all air from the bag to prevent the pineapple from spoiling. Add a label specifying the shelf-life to find out if the pineapple is still good to eat. Remember that you can keep it for six months.
Part 2 of 2: Eating Frozen Pineapple
Step 1. You can use frozen pineapple to make a smoothie or iced drink
Just put it in the blender and follow the recipe of your choice. Remember to use a little less ice than the quantities specified on the recipe because frozen pineapple is a great substitute.
Step 2. Eat raw pineapple
Just take it out of the freezer and enjoy it as it is, fresh and delicious. The same thing goes for blueberries, raspberries and all fruit. It is perfect for summer: being frozen, it will be even tastier, almost like ice cream.
Step 3. Thaw frozen pineapple
If you want to eat raw pineapple, but don't like frozen fruit, leave it in the refrigerator to thaw it overnight. In the morning it will be ready to be enjoyed as it is or with a squeeze of lemon. If you prefer you can use it to enrich a fruit salad.
