Did you discover something epic while playing Minecraft and would like to keep the proof of the discovery? No problem! You will simply have to take a screenshot and then be able to show what you have discovered to all your friends. Screenshots can be generated using any operating system. This article explains where to retrieve the screenshot file after it has been captured.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Windows
Step 1. Close the Minecraft program
Save your game progress and close the application to be able to navigate to the folder where the screenshot was saved. The latter was stored in a specific file inside the computer.
Step 2. Locate the folder of your interest
You will need to use the parameter
% appdata%
within the Windows search functionality. Press the key combination ⊞ Win + s to open the search window.
You can also use the "Run" window to search
Step 3. Go to the "roaming" folder
After typing the code shown in the previous step, press the Enter key. Inside the list you will find the "roaming" folder that will allow you to access the directory containing the Minecraft data.
Step 4. Locate the folder that contains the screenshot
Go to the folder named ".minecraft". At this point, open the "screenshots" directory where you will find the files of all the screenshots you have created.
Step 5. Select the screenshot file you want
Screenshots are saved in-p.webp
Step 6. Use the quick link
If you need to access the Minecraft screenshots folder quickly and easily, type the code
% appdata% \. minecraft / screenshots
inside the Windows search bar. In this way, the contents of the desired folder will be displayed directly.
Method 2 of 3: Mac
Step 1. Understand how a Mac works
The procedure to follow is very similar to that described for the Windows operating system. The only difference is the path to the folder where the screenshots are stored and the terminology.
Step 2. Open a Finder window
To reach this folder on Mac, you need to access the following path: "Macintosh HD" / "Users" / "[username]" / "Library" / "Application Support" / "minecraft" / "screenshots" using the Finder. The "Library" folder of user accounts on the Mac is hidden by default of the operating system, so you will need to change some properties first in order to access that directory.
Step 3. View the folders
If you can't find the ".minecraft" directory, it means it's hidden. To make it visible, you have to start the "Terminal" app stored in the following path / "Applications" / "Utilities". Type the command
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
within the "Terminal" window and press the "Enter" key. The Finder window will close to apply the new configuration changes. Some new versions of the Mac operating system expect to use the "YES" parameter instead of "TRUE". In this case, you will need to run the command
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
Step 4. Open the Finder window again
Access the ".minecraft" folder again, inside which the "screenshots" directory is stored, which should now be visible.
Step 5. Use a quick link
Press the key combination ⌘ Command + ⇧ Shift + g. Type the command "~ / Library / Application Support / minecraft" to navigate to the folder where the Minecraft data is stored, then click on the "screenshots" folder. Alternatively, you can use the following command "~ / Library / Application Support / minecraft / screenshots" to directly access the folder where the screenshots are stored.
Method 3 of 3: Linux
Step 1. Go to the "home" directory
In this case, all you have to do is go to your account's "home" folder.
Step 2. Select the ".minecraft" directory
It should be present inside the "home" folder. If you can't find it, Linux isn't configured to show hidden files and folders. To work around this problem, press the key combination Ctrl + h.
The path you need to access is "~ /.minecraft / screenshots"
Step 3. Locate the screenshot of your interest
The "screenshots" folder is stored in the ".minecraft" directory. At this point, you should be able to view all the screenshots in the folder.
