Step 1. Open Automator

Step 6. Decide if you want Automator to make copies of your files

If so, click on “Add”, otherwise click on “Don't add”.

Step 7. Decide if you want to add or replace text in the filenames

Simply type the text in the text box.

  • If you want to add text, select "After name", "Before name" or "As extension". By selecting "After", the name and text will be added to the end of the file name and before the extension.

    Step 9. Replace the text if you want

    Type the text you want to find and the text you want to replace it with.

    • If you are replacing the text select "Full name" or "File name only" or "Extension only". If you want the uppercase and lowercase letters to match, uncheck "Ignore uppercase and lowercase".

      Step 10. Click on the "Start" button in the upper right corner of the Automator window

      If you are simply changing the name of the files, this is the last step. The file name should have been changed at this point.

      Step 11. Continue if you need to make multiple changes

      If you want to make more than one change to the file names, such as adding text at the beginning of the name and text at the end of the name, click on the two "Xs" to close the Automator window. At this point, drag and drop the files back to Automator.
