Creating your own ballet barre for use in the comfort of your home is simple and inexpensive!
Steps
Step 1. Use a detector to locate the uprights within a wall at least 8.5 m wide
Measure approximately 85cm from the floor and mark the spot with a pencil.
Step 2. Use a level to mark six more points, working 40cm at a time from the center mark
Check with the detector that the marks are in correspondence with the uprights.
Step 3. The brackets will need to be mounted in these seven points
Make sure the walls are not blocked by any obstacles.
Step 4. Attach the seven brackets to the handrail with two screws each, positioning them at a distance of 40 cm from each other, in order to mount them in correspondence with the marks on the wall (adjusting the size in case your uprights are not located standard distance)
Step 5. Have two friends help you hold the ends of the bar steady while you screw the bottom of the central bracket into the wall, at the appropriate height
The top of the bar should be approximately 90cm from the ground.
Step 6. Use the spirit level to check that the beam is straight before attaching the remaining two screws of the center bracket and proceeding to mount the others
Step 7. Thank your friends and promise them front row seats at your next performance
Warnings
- Make sure you choose a bar and stirrups strong enough to support a dancer's weight.
- Sometimes bracket packages may contain additional screws. Check that you have mounted everything correctly before trying your new bar!
