Long Island Iced Tea is one of the most famous cocktails in the world perhaps because it consists of some of the most drunk spirits: vodka, gin, rum, tequila, triple sec. Lemon juice and cola complement it and make it delicious. As you can see from the ingredients list there is no trace of tea in this cocktail, its name derives from its appearance, actually very similar to that of a glass of iced tea. Let's see how it mixes.
Ingrediants
- 15 ml of vodka
- 15 ml of gin
- 15 ml of rum
- 15 ml of tequila
- 15 ml of triple sec or Cointreau
- 30 ml of fresh lime or lemon juice
- 15 ml of sugar syrup
- 1 squirt of cold cola
- 1 lemon wedge for garnish
- ice in cubes
Steps
Step 1. Fill a 'highball' or 'collins' glass or a tall, not too wide glass with ice cubes
Step 2. Fill the shaker with ice to about ¾
Step 3. Measure, and pour into the shaker, all the ingredients except the cola
Step 4. Close the shaker with its cap
Step 5. The Long Island is not a shaken cocktail, so shake the shaker 1-2 times or shake vigorously for only 5 seconds (if you can ask who will taste it which mixing method they prefer)
Step 6. Using the strainer, pour it into the glass
Step 7. Now add a splash of cola
Step 8. Decorate with a lemon wedge
Step 9. The cocktail is ready, cheers
Advice
- If you prefer, you can avoid adding tequila.
- If you don't have a shaker you can mix the ingredients directly in the glass with ice, completing only at the end with a splash of cola.
- For the blueberry version, add a splash of cold blueberry juice instead of cola. This version is known as Long Beach iced tea.
- If you remove the Triple sec or Cointreau from the ingredients, you get Texas tea.
- If you use lemonade instead, you get Long Island lemonade instead of cola.
