Have you ever worked on a project in a very limited space, or with really tiny screws? Did they fall while you screwed them in and you had to look for them, or did you really lose them, one after the other? Here is the answer to your problem: magnetize the screwdriver, so that the screws hang on it while you screw them in.

Steps

Step 1. Take all the screwdrivers you wish to magnetize

If you are making one but intend to use others, magnetize them all at once.

Step 2. Using a fairly strong magnet (an attractive force of 100g to 500g should be fine), rub it lengthwise over the screwdriver repeatedly

Drag it from the center towards the tip of the screwdriver, but not back and forth from one end to the other.

Step 3. Repeat the movement several times, up to 20 may be enough for a slight magnetization, increase the number if you do not consider it sufficient (depending on the attractive strength of the magnet)

The more you rub, the more the screwdriver will become magnetized.

Advice

  • Note that the magnetization will not exceed approximately 500g. And it will never go beyond the attractive force of the magnet.
  • If the screwdriver falls on you often, or just a few times, you will need to magnetize it again.

Warnings

  • Do not use overly magnetized screwdrivers near computer components. As both the latter and the hard drive could be damaged.
  • Do not use an overly powerful magnet, pinch effect and magnetic pickup could become a serious problem.
