Need some help choosing a SoftAir gun? Don't change the page! Here you will find some tips to find the perfect weapon.
Steps
Step 1. Look at the costs
Make sure you have a clear idea of how much you want to spend before you start looking for the perfect weapon. Your price range must be based not only on how much you want to spend, but also on how involved you are in the game. There is no point in spending hundreds of dollars on a professional pistol if you are a beginner. Start with a cheap pistol, so if it breaks you won't have lost a lot of money, then over time you can increase the level of the weapon based on how involved you are and the money available.
Step 2. Remember the type of game you want to play:
assault, as a sniper, as support artillery or simply as cover fire. Make sure you are suitable for the role (e.g. if you are not patient there is no point in being a sniper). After choosing the role, take a suitable weapon. The weapons for assault battles are short and make it easier to shoot in and out of corners. Snipers usually use special heavy rifles, expensive but extremely effective, support gunners are equipped with very heavy but very powerful light machine guns (like the M60). Any assault rifle with a large magazine is recommended for covering fire.
-
From 0 to 80 euros: if you don't have at least 80 euros to spend on a new weapon, keep saving. DO NOT buy any cheap Chinese pistol. You would end up thinking "How nice! A 20 euro gun! Now I can have fun shooting objects in the garden!" You will actually spend 10 minutes shooting objects and then you will realize that you have thrown away 20 euros or more. Electric guns with that price usually have a plastic transmission system, which breaks easily. Don't buy weapons with a plastic transmission system if you want to go beyond garden battles.
-
From 80 to 150 euros: in this price range you will find many weapons for beginners. The best gun manufacturers that belong to this range are Echo 1, Classic Army Sportline and G&G Affordable Series. As long as you stick with these manufacturers, you can't go wrong. Weapon style is based on personal preference. If you want a G36, but your friend says get the M4, get the G36! After all, it is your weapon, and you will have to be happy with what you buy. When buying a weapon, it is a good idea to inquire about available upgrades. The G36s are not as popular as the M4s and will therefore not have the same range of upgrades.
-
From 150 to 200 euros: This price range contains the updated, metal versions of the amateur-level guns manufactured by the same companies. Weapons with updated transmissions are great quality on the inside but not great on the outside. If, however, you know how to handle a firearm and treat it well, then firearms with an updated transmission system are a good step to face the first two meetings of SoftAir as a professional. If you want to avoid this step, keep saving for a higher tier weapon or spend some money on better transmission systems.
-
From 200 to 250 euros - it's a problematic price range for anyone who wants to become a true professional. Many clone manufacturers, especially A&K, trade specialized weapons at these prices, such as the SR-25 and the traditional M4 / M16. AVOID THESE WEAPONS! While the metal body is attractive at these relatively low prices, the internals can best be described as a smoking pile of… you know what. The only exception is the classic MP5. If you are looking for an MP5 and this is the price range for you, such a weapon will be a solid investment.
-
From 250 to 300 euros: welcome to the promised land! This range is the starting point for a high-end model. Many weapons you will find in this range will be classic M4 and M16. You can't go wrong with a classic model, and many people choose the M4 / M16 variant. It's a great place to start if you're thinking of going pro - in fact, many professionals buy from this price range.
-
300 euros or more: at this point each embankment is open. Classic Army, Tokyo Marui, G&G, KWA, and ICS are excellent manufacturers. In this range you can really find every type of weapon. Remember that the Tokyo Marui brand bodies are made of plastic, although the interior is excellent. Again, you can't go wrong with these manufacturers, and your choice depends on your preferences.
Step 3. Model
As mentioned, select the model based on YOUR preferences, not those of others. Here is a short list of the best models.
-
The M4 and M16 series. They are the most popular series in SoftAir. You can find a great range of exterior (such as sights and grips) and interior upgrades for this type of rifle. If you want to connect a scope to this weapon, make sure its rail is 20mm wide, otherwise it all depends on your taste. If you want to use this weapon for assaults, avoid the long-barreled models, very popular in this category.
-
MP5. Another very popular weapon. It doesn't have a ton of exterior upgrade pieces, but it does have several interior ones. It's great for assaults, where small sizes make the difference.
-
AK-47 / AK-74. It has many styles of outer bodies to choose from, from the basic AK-47 to the compact AK-47u. Again, it doesn't have as many external modifications as the M4 / M16, but it does have a lot of internal ones.
-
G36. It's not as popular as the weapons mentioned above, but it's still a great choice. One of its great advantages is the availability of adapters for large magazines. That may be a good thing because the reserves of this weapon are not as large as those of other weapons.
Step 4. Here are some less popular models:
-
G3. Very few external changes, although it has many internal updates. G3 guns are the only ones that cost a lot and have major flashbacks.
-
P90. Heavy external changes, but there are limits to internal updates.
-
SIG 550/552. Very limited external changes, great potential in internal changes.
-
LMG's ('). Limited external modifications, but a wide range of internal modifications available.
Step 5. As mentioned, base your choice on YOUR preferences rather than what others say
If you feel more comfortable with an MP5 than an M16A4, go for that!
Also consider the structure of the weapon. There are two main weapon structures for SoftAir (and in general also for real guns), regular and bullpup. Bullpup guns have a rear trigger magazine, making the gun slightly shorter overall, while retaining a very long barrel. For this, bullpup weapons can be safely used by snipers, gunners and those who carry out the assaults at the same time
Step 6. An example for which it is not recommended to follow your tastes is the LMG series (M249, M60, RPD / RPK etc
). While you may think it is interesting to run and shoot with such a weapon, the weight of the weapon is too great to be used effectively. If you have enough strength in your upper body to carry the weapon with you for a long time, then go for it. However, consider the weight before buying it.
Step 7. The style of play
Consider your game type when choosing your weapon. There are two main types of game: the neighborhood battle (the assault) and the field battle. If you want to play assault, consider purchasing a weapon with a shorter barrel or a collapsible item. If you want to play on the court, you will need to choose a gun with a longer barrel and more accuracy. It is possible to have a long weapon for the assault, but it will be easier to use a short weapon. Conversely, it is possible to use a short weapon in battle on the field, but you will need to be very close to the enemy for the shot to be effective and accurate. There are, then, two major game categories of the assault and the field: the casual game and the milsim (the military simulation). Casual play is simply the development of the garden SoftAir, the atmosphere is relaxed and there are no particular restrictions on equipment. The milsim, on the other hand, is much more restrictive in terms of equipment. Many milsim battles do not allow the use of large reserves of bullets except for weapons that have specially these large reserves (such as the LMG). They also require realistic equipment such as appropriate camouflage (teams, in both casual play and milsim, are often assigned based on the chosen camouflage).
Step 8. Performance
There are 3 types of weapons for SoftAir based on performance.
-
Here are some types of weapons that have different performances:
-
Gas / gas thrust. This type of weapon uses environmentally friendly gas or carbon dioxide cartridges. They have realistic recoil. Basically, with each shot, the weapon recoils almost like a real weapon, slightly less. Many gas weapons are pistols, but there are also rifles and machine guns.
-
Spring loaded. These guns require no batteries or gas. Many spring guns are pistols or sniper rifles. You will have to pull back the winding mechanism before each shot, because the spring is the only propellant. If you want to be a pro, the only spring-loaded weapon you could use is the sniper rifle.
- AEG / AEP. These weapons use a transmission system to wind the spring. This system is powered by an electric battery, to be recharged when it runs out. The most used batteries are those of 8, 4 volts. AEGs are the most common weapons to be found in SoftAir and are of great quality as well as several varieties. Many beginners should purchase an AEG (which stands for “electric automatic weapon”), because they are reliable and more upgradeable than gas weapons. Some AEG guns also have gas propulsion, although those that have this feature are very expensive.
Advice
Choose according to your personal preferences, but pay attention and inform yourself. If you play a lot of assault scenarios, don't buy an M240
Warnings
- Wear safety glasses, ear protection, and leave your firearm in safety mode when not in use.
- Try to avoid getting a weapon taller than you.
- If you are a minor or a beginner of SoftAir, check the regulations of your country to purchase a firearm. You may end up buying something illegally.
- Buying a weapon for the SoftAir takes time and thought. For example, you could buy it for security reasons, but many other people would not feel comfortable doing it.
