Sometimes it happens that a compact powder product falls to the ground and splits, or that a lipstick melts or breaks in the bag. While it's unfortunate and you can't get them back as good as new, it's definitely possible to make them usable again.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Repair a Cracked Compact Powder Product
Step 1. Cover the compacted powder with cling film
Collect all the pieces of compacted powder and put them back in the box. Wrap them in cling film so that all edges of the container are well covered.
Step 2. Put the compacted powder into the package, crush it into tiny pieces
Crush it with a spoon or your fingers until you get a fine powder. The transparent film allows you to crush the dust without getting your fingers or anything else dirty.
Step 3. Add a few drops of isopropyl alcohol to the powder
Remove the plastic wrap, then pour some isopropyl alcohol into a dropper or spoon. Add a few drops of alcohol to the compact powder - your goal should be to get a paste-like consistency. The amount of alcohol to use depends largely on the size of the product, so start with 2 or 3 drops and add more if needed.
Don't worry if the powder gets saturated - it will just take a little longer to dry
Step 4. Smooth the dough with a spoon
Once you have mixed the powder and the alcohol, flatten the dough with the help of a spoon until it is smooth and homogeneous on the surface. Make sure it touches all edges of the package and that there are no air bubbles.
Step 5. Let the powder dry for 24 hours
Once you have obtained a smooth and homogeneous result, remove the product residues from the edges of the package with a handkerchief. Let it dry for 24 hours or overnight. Once dry you can start using it again.
This method is suitable for eyeshadows, blushes, bronzers, highlighters, powders and foundations that have cracked
Step 6. Remove the glass pieces with a tissue soaked in acetone
If the mirror is also shattered, it is best to remove it completely. Make sure there are no pieces of glass in the dust, then cover it with cling film or a cloth. Soak a paper towel or tea towel with acetone and start melting the glue while keeping the mirror attached to the package. Remove the pieces of glass with a sharp tool. Remove residues with acetone.
- If you want to replace the broken mirror, buy it at a DIY store or on the internet.
- If desired, protect your fingers from the glass by wearing gloves.
Method 2 of 2: Retrieve a Broken Lipstick
Step 1. If the lipstick has split in half, melt the ends
A broken lipstick can be reattached by melting and rejoining the two pieces. Smooth the ends of the two pieces with a cotton swab, then soften the base with a lighter. Once the base has melted slightly, soften the end of the piece that has come loose. Reattach them carefully and use the lighter to slightly melt the edges where they rejoin, so that you can smooth them with the help of a cotton swab.
To make the process easier, twist the lipstick to fully extend it before you start repairing it
Step 2. If the lipstick has broken at the base, collect the debris from the bottom of the tube
If the product has snapped right where it rejoins the base, fixing it is really easy. Remove any product residue that has settled at the bottom of the base using a toothpick, hairpin or other small tool. Now, take the top of the lipstick, which is the one that has come off, and put it back on the base.
Step 3. If your lipstick melts often, buy a reusable lipstick mold
If you live in a place where it's hot or the product melts all the time, you might want to purchase a reusable lipstick mold. It is easy to find online and the cost is around 10 euros.
Step 4. If you can't fix it, move the lipstick to a container
If the lipstick breaks into pieces or is impossible to recover, let it melt. Put the pieces in a ladle and let them liquefy using a lighter. At this point, transfer the product to an eyeshadow jar or pod, then place it in the freezer so it can harden. You can apply it with your finger or a lipstick brush.
