Many of us wish to have cute and unique hairstyles for going to work or school. This article shows you several quick and fun ways to style your hair.
Steps
Method 1 of 5: Part 1: Ponytail
Step 1. Try on the ponytail
All but the shortest hair types are suitable for the ponytail, and there are several ways to customize it. Here are some options.
Step 2. Make it tidy or messy
For a smooth look, with one hand, pull the hair up more or less at the height where you want to have the ponytail. With the other hand, gently comb the hair backwards towards the other hand, starting from the hairline and bringing it back completely. For a more disheveled look, turn upside down and ruffle your hair, using a little light hairspray or a product to give volume to the roots. Tie your hair without straightening it.
Step 3. Make it high or low
Place the ponytail on top of the head, at the nape of the neck, or in the middle.
Step 4. Move it aside
Try placing the ponytail behind the ear, or make a lighter shift by placing it just a few centimeters more to the right or left. Whatever you do, make sure it shows that it's intentional - you don't want people to think you can't pony your hair.
Step 5. Leave some strands free
If you have layered hair, bangs, or simply want a less set look, take a few strands from the top or sides of the face and leave them out of the ponytail. You can curl or straighten these locks, or just leave them as they are.
Step 6. Add a voluminous hairstyle
For a trendy 60s-style look, add volume to your hair before tying it in the ponytail. Comb them back where you want to make them more voluminous, and spray them with hairspray. You can also add a headband or a nice peak, placing it about an inch away from the hairline.
Step 7. Hide the elastic
If you have long hair and some hair clips, you can mask the elastic used to tie the ponytail. Take a long, medium-width strand out of the ponytail, positioned more or less in the center. Wrap it around the base of the tail, over the elastic, and secure it with a clip when you have made a complete turn. Wrap it up again, depending on how long it is, and always secure it with a clothespin at the bottom of the tail.
Step 8. Make a half ponytail
Grab the hair at the top of your head, leaving the ones below loose. Tie them with a rubber band or a hair barrette. This way the hair will be pulled back while maintaining a long and soft look.
Step 9. Make pigtails
Instead of making one ponytail, do two - it's pigtails. Be careful, though - while the ponytail is something that will suit a woman of any age, pigtails are typically considered a girlish thing, or to be used in a fancy dress costume.
Method 2 of 5: Part 2: Bun and Collected Hair
Step 1. Collect your hair
You don't have to wait for special occasions to collect your hair. Here are some ways to wear this look every day.
Step 2. Use rubber bands or clips
After you've tied your hair into a ponytail, rolled and wrapped it around the base, you can secure your bun with another elastic (or two) that isn't plastic, or with some bobby pin. With the clips you can have a little more control, while the elastics make the base of the chignon seem tighter. Choose the way that seems most appropriate to you.
Step 3. Make the bun smooth or tousled
A very smooth and set chignon is usually referred to as a "ballet chignon" because it is a favorite of ballet dancers. To do this, carefully comb your hair, roll it up tightly and use hairspray. You can also choose a more disheveled look, by rolling and stopping the hair a bit at random. A tousled bun looks best if your hair is curly or wavy.
Step 4. Do it up or down
as with the ponytail, you can wear the chignon at the top of the head, at the nape of the neck, or at any point in between.
Step 5. Move it aside
If you decide to do a side bun, keep it low and place it just behind the ear - a high side bun will look awkward when viewed from the side.
Step 6. Leave a few strands out
If you have layered hair, bangs or just want a less set look, take a few strands from the top or the sides of the face and leave them out of the chignon. You can curl or straighten these locks, or just leave them as they are.
Step 7. Make a braided bun
Tie your hair back into a ponytail, then make a braid and pin it at the end. Twist it around its base to create a bun, and secure it with bobby pins or a rubber band.
Method 3 of 5: Part 3: Braids
Step 1. Braid your hair
There are a variety of ways to braid hair. Once you have learned them, you can incorporate them into your hairstyles, large or small. Here are some very simple ideas.
Step 2. Make a simple braid
When learning how to braid for the first time, start with a secure base like ponytail, half ponytail or pigtails. Separate three strands, and braid them accordingly. Tie the braid with a non-plastic rubber band. Once you've mastered the technique, try starting with loose hair for a more tousled, less set look.
Make lots of small braids with the front strands, directly on the face. Position them back and forth from where you usually take the row, for example, move the first braid to fall to the right, the second to the left, etc. Then pull your hair back into a low ponytail or bun
Step 3. French braid your hair
A French braid takes its cue from simple braid techniques, and also includes the hair closest to the scalp.
- Try a single French braid, or divide your hair into two French braids.
- Alternatively, you can divide your hair into two strands, French braid it until it reaches the nape of the neck, and tie the two parts together into a loose ponytail.
Step 4. Learn how herringbone hair is braided
A herringbone braid looks tricky, but it's easy to do once you get the hang of it. Start with a simple base, like a ponytail, for a neater look; for a more tousled touch, start with the hair down at the nape of the neck. A herringbone braid braided to one side and worn over the shoulder is a very trendy look.
Try a large herringbone. Most herringbone braids require small strands of hair to be pulled on opposite sides, something that can be time consuming for people with medium thick hair. Instead of taking small strands, make them as thick as you can. It will take a lot less time, and it will still be a cute and unique hairstyle
Step 5. Make a halo braid
Only works with longer hair; it looks complicated, but it is very easy to do.
- Grab a side strand of hair.
- Lock in unnecessary strands.
- Start making a regular braid.
- After you have finished that braid, bring it up to the top of the hair and all the way to the other side.
- Secure it with a bobby pin.
- Do the same thing on the other side.
- All done. Set with hairspray if desired, but shouldn't be needed.
Step 6. Make a side braid
Brush your hair well, making sure it is smooth and knot-free. Bring all your hair to one side of your head and start braiding it; when you get to the end of the braid, secure it with a rubber band.
Method 4 of 5: Part 4: Get Your Hair Down
Step 1. Loosen your hair
Loose hair is a classic style, and it is also a way to prevent a lot of damage that comes from keeping the elastic all day, every day. Here are some ways to get started.
Step 2. Straighten your hair
To straighten your hair, you can dry it with a hairdryer and a round brush, or straighten dry hair. Some people with very frizzy hair first pull it while drying, and then touch it up with the straightener. Either way, be sure to use a product that protects your hair from heat.
Step 3. Bring your hair curly
Use a curling iron, curling iron or straightener for wavy hair. Again, use a product that protects your hair from heat.
To curl your hair without using heat, start with damp or wet hair in the evening. Curl the locks into small buns, and arrange them with the gel, mousse or hairspray. Dissolve dry hair in the morning and gently ruffle it. Don't brush them
Step 4. Make your hair wavy
To make your hair wavy, dry it with a hairdryer that has a diffuser, moving it in small circles near the hairline.
Step 5. Get nice waves without having to resort to heat
To get wavy hair without the use of heat, braid damp hair into simple or French braids overnight. Dissolve dry hair in the morning, and gently ruffle it. Don't brush them.
Method 5 of 5: Part 5: Accessories
Step 1. Add accessories
A carefully chosen accessory or two can really make your hairstyle stand out. One accessory - two, at most - will suffice.
Step 2. Use the bows
If you tie your hair in a ponytail or bun, add a bow to the hairstyle. You can tie the bow to any elastic, which will still be hidden, or use the bow alone.
Step 3. Put on a hair band
Headbands can be elaborate or simple, and worn with hair down or tied up. Give it a try and find out if you like more the band near the hairline or worn further back on the head.
If you have thick hair, it may tend to spread out above the headband, giving you a bit of a weird look. You can fix this by pinning a swollen section of hair on either side of the headband
Step 4. Use hair clips, small combs, or clothespins
These can be used to tie the hair, or simply as a decoration. Make sure the colors and style don't clash with your clothes or hair color.
Advice
- It is not always necessary to straighten or curl your hair. You are beautiful just the way you are, and in most hairstyles, the texture of the hair isn't all that important.
- Tie your hair into lots of little braids and leave it like that overnight.
- If you have a fringe that you don't like and is still growing, point it backwards with clips or wear a headband.
- Healthy hair is becoming easier and easier to style. Use shampoo and conditioner when needed (usually every other day) and cut split ends often.
- Using heat on the hair, as well as products that contain alcohol (gel, mousse, hairspray) can damage the hair in the long term. Try not to do these things every single day.
- Have fun and experiment! Play with your hair and you may find a hairstyle that is original and looks great on you.
- Try a 50s-style banana tuft, if you have bangs, point it back and puff it up a bit, or you could part your hair and braid it and make a banana tuft with the clips.
- For a wavy look, tie your hair into braids after the shower and leave it like that overnight, let it down in the morning and don't brush it.
- Remember the bangs. Make it straight or curly, or pull it back and secure it with a clothespin.
- Place bows in your hair to make it more showy.
- Always brush your hair dry, not wet, otherwise you will damage it.
Warnings
- When doing straight or curly hair using the straightener, be careful if you are near water or flammable devices.
- Straightening your hair and making it curly creates split ends, frizzy hair and makes it rebellious, it may seem like the right thing while you are doing it but in the long run it damages the hair.
- When you use heat on your hair, for example when using a straightener or a hairdryer, use the serum or spray to protect it from the heat to avoid damaging the hair.
