Cherries are one of the healthiest foods. Since they are a seasonal fruit, their availability over time is reduced. You can find them at the greengrocer starting from spring, but summer ones are the sweetest, when they are a darker red. The fruit must be large, firm and pulpy with a smooth and shiny skin. Taste them before buying them to be sure of the flavor.
Steps
Step 1. Take them one at a time from the package, use your hands
When they are light red or very hard, don't buy them as they will be quite sour. The best and sweetest cherries are the dark ones. If they are bruised, soft or broken, do not pick them up.
Step 2. Remember that cherries are very perishable fruits, keep them in the fridge in a plastic bag without washing them and pack them too tightly
They keep for about a week but no longer. When you start eating them, you can't stop.
Step 3. You can also freeze them if you wish to consume them in the future
Remember, though, to wash them and put them in a freezer bag.
Step 4. Enjoy the cherries by eating them with your hands, fishing directly from the bag
Put them in a colander and wash them with cold running water. Transfer them to a bowl, but remember to also make a container for the pits. Give them a bite, so you can remove the seed with your fingers and throw it in the special dish, in the meantime eat the pulp of your juicy cherry!
Step 5. Make a fantastic cherry tart
Stone them, add flour and sugar and put them in a shortcrust pastry base. You can also make them into a sweet jam or a sauce to decorate ice creams.
Advice
- Bring a bag to the movies, they're a much healthier snack than popcorn.
- Put some in a plastic bag and place them in your children's lunch box along with the sandwiches.
- It is said that whoever is able to tie a knot on the stem of a cherry with his mouth is a good kisser.
- There are also canned cherries that are used in cooking. They are great when dipped in chocolate.
Warnings
- If you eat too many cherries in a short time you will have an upset stomach and / or diarrhea.
- Cherries stain clothes, so put on a bib or wear an old or black shirt.
- If you put a whole cherry in your mouth without first removing the stone, it is likely that you will swallow it.
