Aniseed tea is an infusion made with a plant called Pimpinella anisum, which is believed to be effective in fighting ailments such as asthma, colic, bronchitis and nausea. However, it should not be used as a substitute for medical treatment! It is worth a try thanks to its taste, aromatic, sweet and similar to licorice. Here's how to make tea.
Ingrediants
Dried or fresh aniseed leaves or seeds
Steps
Step 1. Prepare an infusion:
Boil water in a kettle.
Pour 1 teaspoon of dried anise leaves or 3 teaspoons of chopped fresh anise leaves into a cup of boiling water.
Leave to infuse for a few minutes. At this point the tea will be ready to be served.
Step 2. Make a decoction with aniseed
Boil the water in a kettle.
Use seeds instead of leaves. Chop or grind 1 tablespoon of aniseed. You can do this with the help of a mortar and pestle.
Pour 2 cups of boiling water into a saucepan. Add the shredded seeds. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
Serve.
Step 3. Add some warm milk
This is an optional step, but either way, aniseed tea can be especially delicious when made with hot milk. It is a perfect drink to sip just before bed, as anise is thought to help you sleep.
