This article shows you how to open a "Command Prompt" window in a Windows environment. There are several ways to do this, starting with a simple search in the "Start" menu to using the "Run" feature. Remember that on some systems, for example computers in schools, public places or companies, it will not be possible to open the "Command Prompt" due to restrictions imposed by network administrators.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Use the Start Menu
Step 1. Enter the "Start" menu by clicking the
| techicon | x30px]. It features the Windows logo and is located in the lower left corner of the desktop. Alternatively, you can press the ⊞ Win key on your keyboard. You can search for "Command Prompt" in all versions of Windows that support this feature.
If you are using Windows 8, you will need to position the mouse pointer in the upper right corner of the screen to reveal the charms bar and to be able to select the "Search" icon in the shape of a magnifying glass
Step 2. Type the keywords command prompt in the "Start" menu
The "Start" menu search bar is located at the bottom of its window. This will perform a search for "Command Prompt" within your computer.
Step 3. Select the icon
related to the Windows "Command Prompt".
It should appear at the top of the search results list that appeared in the "Start" menu. This will bring up a "Command Prompt" window.
Method 2 of 3: Use the Run Window
Step 1. Open the "Run" window
To do this, press the hotkey combination ⊞ Win + R.
Alternatively, select the "Start" menu icon with the right mouse button (or press the key combination ⊞ Win + X) and choose the option Run from the context menu that appeared.
Step 2. Type the command cmd in the "Open" field of the "Run" window
This is the command that opens a new "Command Prompt" window.
Step 3. Press the OK button
This will run the "cmd.exe" program, which allows you to open the "Command Prompt" in Windows.
Method 3 of 3: Use the Start Menu Application Command Prompt
Step 1. Enter the "Start" menu by clicking the

Step 2. Scroll through the menu that appeared to locate and select the Windows System item
This folder is located at the bottom of the "Start" menu.

Advice
- If you wish, you can create a shortcut to the "Command Prompt" directly on the desktop, so that you can access it whenever you want quickly and easily.
- To run the "Command Prompt" as system administrator, select its icon with the right mouse button, then choose the option Run as administrator from the context menu that appeared.
