The passenger compartment ceiling can get dirty over time due to contact with hands, hair, skin and other objects. Since the fabric that covers it is glued, you need to be sure that the cleaning technique and detergents do not damage the laminate and the glue. Read on to find out more and learn the safest and most effective methods.
Steps
Step 1. Loosen dirt with a microfiber cloth
It is a material that lifts and collects most of the dirt and dust deposited on the roof.
Use a clean, soft cloth and scrub the ceiling following the direction of the carpet fibers
Step 2. Purchase a suitable carpet cleaner or shampoo
Upholstery products are usually safe and compatible with car upholstery fabric. For example, if your car roof is vinyl, buy a vinyl cleaner.
Go to your trusted car parts and products store and request a specific product for the roof of your car
Step 3. Spray the cleaner over the entire surface
A product of this type is able to remove all traces of dirt and dust that the microfiber cloth has not been able to remove.
Step 4. Gently wipe the ceiling using the microfiber cloth all the time
When the detergent has done its work, the cloth removes all residues of lint, dirt and grime.
Step 5. For grease stains, try a mixture of water and vinegar
Mix 3 parts of water with 1 of distilled white vinegar to attack stains without damaging the glue or laminate.
Soak a microfiber cloth with this solution and gently scrub the ceiling
Step 6. Wait until the fabric is completely dry before applying more upholstery cleaner
If dirty areas remain after the first use of the product, it is necessary to wait before repeating the treatment, so that the carpet dries and the glue does not come off.
Step 7. Spray some deodorant or orange oil
This type of product eliminates the unpleasant smell of cigarettes and food from the upholstery.
Resist the temptation to fill the fabric with deodorant spray, as some contain chemical ingredients that dissolve the glue and cause the upholstery to peel off the roof
Step 8. Finished
Warnings
- NEVER wet the passenger compartment roof lining excessively, otherwise when it dries, water stains remain and do not go away.
- If you buy a carpet cleaner and do not know if it is safe to clean the passenger compartment ceiling, do a test on a hidden area of the interior to make sure it does not damage the fabric. This way you avoid damaging the entire upholstery if the detergent is not compatible.
- Never use a vacuum cleaner for the ceiling. The pressure could tear the carpet out of its backing and cause it to dangle.
- Never use harsh solvents or soaps on the roof of the car. They contain chemicals that can dissolve the glue and laminate that keep the carpet attached to the ceiling.
