Lip piercing is one of the most popular body decorations ever, along with earrings and other forms of body art such as tattoos. Lip piercing is certainly cool, but what can you do to get the piercing without piercing the skin?

Steps

Step 1. Get a piece of wire

Try it in hardware or haberdashery so you can choose from a wide selection of colors and sizes. You can probably find wire in a large supermarket as well.

  • To make a lip piercing use No. 14-18 wire. 18 is thinner and easier to work with. It may be too fine for your taste, but the thicker a thread, the harder it is to work.
  • Copper wire for craft items are typically sold in packages and are approximately 30cm long.

Step 2. Boil the floss

This way the thread will be sterilized right from the start.

Step 3. Cut a small piece of wire

Size about 5cm. Cut several pieces of different lengths with a wire cutter. Before you find the right length you will have to make several attempts. If the wire is too short, the piercing will be tight; if it is too long the piercing will be loose.

Step 4. Smooth the pointed ends of the wire

The cut ends are pointed and must be smoothed to prevent them from scratching the inside and outside of the mouth. Use 60-grit sandpaper or coarser sandpaper to smooth both ends.

Step 5. Fold the piece of wire into a circle

If the thread is thin and malleable, you can bend it around your finger. However if you want a perfect and regular curve fold it around something harder, like a plastic or metal stick, often when a finger.

Step 6. Adjust the shape

The circular shape can be modified and made more oval or in other shapes. Use pliers or tongs. Tighten the ring with pliers applying light pressure.

Step 7. Create blank and hidden space

After bending the wire into a circle you need to make two more parts of the piercing, the empty space and the hidden one. The empty space is the open part of the ring that causes the piercing to fit on the lip; the hidden space, on the other hand, is what is inside (and that nobody sees) in contact with the jaw and / or gums. The hidden part must be flat and without drafts to avoid possible irritation.

  • To create the empty space, gently open the ring with your fingers or small pliers.
  • To create the hidden flat part, reinforce one end of the wire by flattening it with pincers. This part must be about 1/3 of the length of the ring.

Step 8. Try on the fake piercing

Tuck it over your lip and place it where you want it, then squeeze it tight enough for it to stay put. You will probably have to make some small adjustments to get the desired result and to make it comfortable.

  • Make sure the empty space is large enough. If it is too small, the piercing may pierce one side of your mouth. If it is too big the piercing will be loose.
  • Adjust the shape of the ring according to the thickness of your lip. Some people prefer a tight piercing that presses on the skin; others prefer a wider, slower loop.

Step 9. Customize the piercing

Although many prefer a simple ring, you can add lots of decorations to the piercing to make it more beautiful and original.

  • Use old metal links from old or broken jewelry. Insert them into the wire so they are visible on the outside. They will create a more sophisticated look, however they may end up in your mouth.
  • Make more rings and join them together to create a cluster of rings.
  • Add other piercings, such as studs or small round piercings.

Warnings

  • If you experience inflammation that lasts for more than a day, go to the doctor right away. You may be allergic to metal or the piercing may have caused an infection for other reasons. Avoid infections!
  • Wear the fake piercing for up to 2 hours the first time. After that, carefully examine the area inside and outside your mouth. If it is red, inflamed or damaged, do not use the piercing until it has healed completely.
