Drawing a zipper on your face is a great idea for creating some dark (and even a little creepy) makeup on Halloween. It is in fact perfect for frightening and hitting friends. It's also pretty simple to make - you just need a few cosmetics and a zipper.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Prepare Everything You Need

Step 1. Prepare everything you need

It's an easy trick to do, but you need some specific products. Before you start, get:

  • Hinge;
  • Scissors;
  • Liquid latex;
  • Make-up sponges;
  • Cotton balls or pads;
  • Red face paint;
  • Eyeshadow and / or red lipstick;
  • Face glue;
  • Vaseline.

Step 2. Trim the excess fabric around the edges of the zipper, otherwise the final result will not be believable

With the fabric removed from the edges, cut the bottom of the zipper as well.

If you plan to slant it over your face, cut it so that one side is shorter than the other

Step 3. Once you have determined where you intend to place the zipper, place it on your face and trace the inner contours with an eye pencil

You should create a V to give the impression that a zipper is actually opening on the face.

Before making a final decision, do several tests with the zipper

Step 4. Tear off a cotton ball or pad:

the fluff will help you modify the skin, creating a lumpy, uneven texture that is more realistic than perfectly smooth skin.

Break the cotton ball or pad and put the pieces aside: they must be applied after the liquid latex has been applied

Step 5. Mix the red lipstick with petroleum jelly to create a shiny effect on the skin

In this way the final result will be even more realistic, similar to a fresh wound.

You can also darken the color by adding some black or brown eyeliner or eyeshadow

Method 2 of 3: Creating the Makeup

Step 1. Apply a layer of liquid latex to the inside of the zipper, between the lines you drew

Pat it on your skin with the help of a make-up sponge. Avoid the eye area, nose and mouth.

Do not apply it on the eyelids: avoid letting it come into contact with the eye area

Step 2. Once the first layer of liquid latex has been applied, adhere the pieces of cotton to the skin

Then, tap another layer of latex. This allows you to obtain a lumpy and irregular texture, much more realistic.

Continue applying the cotton swabs and liquid latex until you get a satisfactory result

Step 3. At this point, you need to cover the lumpy base you created using the red face paint

You can use different shades of red and also add some brown or black for a multidimensional effect.

For example, you could apply a veil of red, then tap a darker shade of red on certain areas to make them stand out. You could also dab and mix brown and black paint around the cotton lumps to make blood clots

Step 4. Apply red eyeshadow on the movable lids

Remember not to use liquid latex on the eyes. In any case, if you have drawn the zipper around the eyes, you need to make sure that they match the rest of the face.

  • Apply the red eyeshadow on the mobile lids and underneath. While it does need to be layered, this is the absolute safest way to color your eyelids.
  • If the zipper surrounds your mouth, then try applying a red lipstick in a tone that matches the rest of the makeup.

Step 5. Once the makeup is complete, glue the zipper to the outside of the colored area using face glue

Adhere the zipper to the area you marked. Make sure you use enough glue to fix it well.

Step 6. To complete your makeup, apply the red lipstick and Vaseline blend to the colored areas of your face for a shiny, wet look that is reminiscent of fresh blood

If the petroleum jelly is too shiny or you overdid it, pat it gently with a paper towel

Method 3 of 3: Using Liquid Latex Safely

Step 1. Do a skin test

If you have a latex allergy, this product should not be used at all. In other cases it should be fine. However, since the skin on the face is more sensitive than other parts of the body, a skin test is good.

To do this, apply a small amount of liquid latex to the skin of the face, for example on a cheek. Wait 30 minutes and remove it. If the skin does not change immediately and no redness or irritation appears within 24 hours, then you should be able to use it without problems. Instead, avoid using it if you notice itching, redness or other symptoms typical of an irritation

Step 2. Before using liquid latex, apply a cream to your face to protect it from the product and make it easier to remove

Just use a veil of your usual cream.

Step 3. Liquid latex cannot be applied to the eye area as it may damage the eyes

It should also not be used on the lips and nostrils. Consequently, keep it away from these areas.

Step 4. Avoid getting it on your hair

During removal, the liquid latex comes away easily from the skin, but from the hair it does not, so you risk being forced to shave a part of your head to get rid of the residue.

To avoid having to make drastic cuts or shave, do not apply liquid latex to your hair

Step 5. Experiment

To obtain the desired result it may be necessary to make several attempts, also because working with liquid latex requires some practice. Try the trick, take pictures, shoot videos and improve it from time to time.
