It can be very difficult to get rid of waterproof mascara. In fact, it contains ingredients designed to make the product water resistant. Washing the face would therefore be useless to remove it. Don't worry though! It is possible to remove make-up quickly and effectively using natural products and even commercial ones.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Commercial products
Step 1. Use eye makeup remover
There are many products on the market specifically designed to get rid of water resistant mascara. A special eye make-up remover for this type of make-up removes all traces quickly, safely and effectively. If you apply mascara often, it is absolutely worth investing in a quality makeup remover.
- Always use hypoallergenic products, even if you don't have sensitive skin. Hypoallergenic makeup ingredients tend to be less harmful to the skin.
- Prefer a well-known brand, such as Lancôme, Clarins, Elizabeth Arden and so on. The quality is higher, so the makeup remover is less likely to irritate the eyes.
Step 2. Use a baby shampoo
This product can be effective for removing waterproof mascara. Baby shampoos can usually be used safely around the eye area, which is sensitive. In fact, most brands are hypoallergenic, free from added dyes and fragrances.
- Use only a very small amount of baby shampoo and apply it exclusively to the lashes. Avoid getting it directly in the eye.
- Never use classic shampoo, as it will irritate the eyes.
Step 3. Apply a cold cream
Use a brand like Avène to remove stubborn makeup residue, such as water-resistant mascara. Cold cream is also useful for removing makeup from the entire face.
- Wash your face with your classic cleanser, pat it dry with a towel, then apply the cold cream for a deeply moisturizing treatment.
- Let the skin absorb the cold cream for a few minutes before wiping it off with a warm face sponge.
Step 4. Avoid using petroleum jelly
Since it is a petroleum derivative, it is not an ideal substance for the eye area.
Use it only as a last resort and avoid getting it directly in the eye
Method 2 of 3: Natural Products
Step 1. Remove eye makeup with olive oil
Since mascara is waterproof, it uses the opposite of water, which is oil. The oil breaks down the waterproof properties of the mascara, dissolving it and removing it from the lashes with a minimal stroke.
Pour the olive oil on your fingers and massage it into your lashes with your index finger and thumb until they are coated with the product. The mascara should come off easily
Step 2. Use coconut oil
It is an ideal product for breaking down mascara and also leaving the delicate eye area hydrated.
Pour a few drops of coconut oil onto a cotton ball and rub it gently over your eyes
Step 3. Make a solution of water, witch hazel and sweet almond or jojoba oil
This compound has a shelf life of 6 months and will not sting or irritate the eyes.
- Mix 2 tablespoons of witch hazel water, 2 tablespoons of jojoba or sweet almond oil, and 2 tablespoons of water in a clean container or dispenser.
- Shake the solution to make sure you mix it thoroughly. Run it over your eyes with clean fingers. Alternatively, apply it to a cotton ball or make-up remover pad to remove makeup.
Method 3 of 3: Thoroughly Remove Water Resistant Mascara
Step 1. Use cotton balls, makeup remover pads or cotton swabs to remove the mascara
When removing water-resistant mascara, it is important to use the right tools to remove all of the product and prevent the eye area from becoming irritated.
You can also use hypoallergenic baby wipes or a clean, damp face sponge
Step 2. Close your eyes and place the cotton ball under your lashes
This should be where you applied the mascara.
- Once the cotton ball is placed under the lashes, apply gentle pressure so that the bottom of the lashes are pressed against the ball.
- Always remove mascara in a careful and gentle way. If you rub too hard, you will end up pulling out some eyelashes and irritating the skin around the eyes. You also risk getting the product in your eyes, which could cause an infection.
Step 3. Press the cotton ball against your lashes for about 10-20 seconds
This causes the makeup remover to begin dissolving the mascara.
Step 4. Slowly move the cotton ball along your lashes
Try to tug on them as little as possible, always moving the wad in the same direction.
Step 5. Check your progress in the mirror
If you still have some mascara on your lashes or it's stubborn and won't go away, continue to gently wipe the cotton ball under your lashes.
Step 6. Use cotton swabs to remove the mascara from the base of the lashes
Soak a cotton swab in make-up remover and use it to gently scrub the roots of your lashes and remove any residual mascara.
Step 7. Wash your face
Now that you have removed your eyes, use a mild facial cleanser to remove any remaining makeup and oily residue that may have been left by the makeup remover.
Make sure you rinse your face with plenty of warm water
Step 8. Moisturize your face for soft skin
After washing, be sure to apply eye contour and face moisturizer, as the makeup remover can dry out the skin.
Step 9. Finished
Advice
- Buy large packs of cotton balls and cotton buds so you always have them on hand.
- The oil can irritate the face. Instead of applying it directly to your lashes, pour a small amount onto a tissue or cotton ball and use it to gently remove the mascara.
