Magic wands are used in many pagan ceremonies to focus energy while performing spells and rituals. After reading this article, you will have no trouble finding a fallen branch, cleansing it of its negative energy and turning it into your personal magic wand.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Finding the Wood
Step 1. Choose which wood variety to use
Many believe that every single species of tree holds a different type of energy. When you turn a branch into a magic wand, that energy remains locked within it.
- The longevity and majesty of the oak make its wood considered sacred;
- Birch wood is said to contain the energy of love;
- Ash wood is great for making a magic wand aimed at restoring health, but also for other spells.
Step 2. Take a walk in nature
Once you've chosen the type of wood you want to use, go to an area where you can find that specific variety of trees. Look for a fallen branch, the important thing is that it is at least 30 cm long.
- Follow your instinct by letting yourself be guided towards the branch that most attracts you.
- Try to find a fallen branch rather than a living one. If you intend to detach one directly from the plant, do so only after asking the tree for permission. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, then you'd better look elsewhere.
Step 3. Leave an offer to show your gratitude
Whether your branch was picked from the ground or detached from the tree, you should leave something as a gift to the plant as a thank you. The possibilities are different, the important thing is that the choice falls on something that contains natural ingredients, for example:
- Apple juice;
- A cake, biscuits or homemade bread;
- Crystals charged with energy.
Part 2 of 3: Consecrate the Wood
Step 1. Get all the tools you need to perform the consecration ritual
The purpose of the ceremony is to purify the wood of past energies before turning it into a magic wand. Here is a list of the necessary material:
- A white candle;
- Smudge of sage or cedar powder or sage wood incense;
- A large feather;
- A purified quartz crystal;
- Lighter or matches;
- A small altar on which to place the wood.
Step 2. Prepare to perform the ritual
At the start of the ceremony, you will need to face north. Place the altar with the wood on your left, then arrange all the necessary tools on your right.
Step 3. While standing, light the incense or smudge it
Begin the ritual by standing with your body facing north as you light the incense and say a prayer for help and energy.
Step 4. Rotate yourself, spreading the smoke
Use the feather to spread the smoke around the room. Move clockwise.
- Turn right to face east, then blow the smoke into the environment asking for the support of the spirit guides.
- Turn to the right again, facing the body to the south, spreading the smoke and asking for help to rid the wood of negative energies.
- Turn right again to face west, then thank the spirit guides for helping you by not stopping smoke around the room.
- Finally, turn your body back to the north by sitting on the ground in the center of the smoke circle. Place the incense or smudge it to your right, in a special incense holder.
Step 5. Light the candle and take the crystal in your hands
Place the candle in front of you, then light it as you say a prayer to welcome the divine presence around you. Hold the quartz with both hands, imagining that the white light of divine knowledge penetrates your head from above flowing down your arms until it reaches and enters the crystal. Send a quartz thought asking for all negative energies to move away from the wood, then place it back on your right.
Step 6. Bring the branch in front of you, then sprinkle it with smoke
Place it on the ground right in front of you and say a prayer to welcome it into your life. Take back the smudge or incense to make the smoke sway around the wood. Imagine in your mind that the smoke purifies the wood freeing it from all past energies.
Step 7. Use the quartz crystal to ward off negative energies
Hold it in your hands, right above the twig, then mentally visualize that it absorbs all the evil energies released from the wood. Imagine the energies escaping from the quartz to gradually dissolve into the universe. At this point, place the crystal in contact with the wood asking for it to be flooded with positive energy.
Step 8. At the end of the ritual, say a prayer to express your gratitude
Close your eyes and thank the divine for helping you cleanse the wood of all negative energies. Blow out the candle, then tidy up the room.
Part 3 of 3: Carving the Wood
Step 1. First remove the bark from the wood
Use a knife to scrape it off the branch carefully. In some cases it will be possible to remove a large part of the bark with your hands, using the knife only to remove the last residues.
Step 2. Carve the wood to turn it into your magic wand
Carefully carve it to give it the desired shape. Remember that one of the two ends should be more pointed. Don't be in a hurry, work it slowly by removing one thin layer after another. The best thing to do might be to try to bring your wand to life by looking at what is already its natural shape.
Step 3. Add designs, runes and energy symbols to your wand
Use the knife to carve them in the wood. Each symbol is capable of attracting a different type of energy, so choose carefully which powers to bestow on your wand.
If you wish, you can also blacken the wand with fire to characterize the look of images and symbols
Step 4. Sand the wand
Rub the entire wand with sandpaper to smooth the edges and eliminate any imperfections. Repeat several times until it is perfectly smooth.
Step 5. Characterize your magic wand
It will have to become a unique, exclusive object, capable of representing your personal energies. Add decorations that can transform it into your tool of power.
- Pierce the wood at the handle of the wand to create a hole in which to insert a leather band to allow you to carry it.
- Attach feathers to the end of the wand.
Step 6. Decorate it
You can add a few more decorative touches by using small crystals or wire. Choose gemstones or crystals that have special meaning to you to give the wand positive energy.
- Use glue to stick energizing stones and crystals along your magic wand.
- Wrap copper or silver wire around the wand to give it extra strength.
