You may have seen some incredibly good Tetris players - fast enough to make you doubt they are human. Here's how to improve your skill and take the game to the next level.
Steps
Step 1.
- Prepare a T-space. A T-space must be the same shape as the T-piece, one free block at the bottom and three horizontal blocks above. See the image at the beginning of this step for reference. Make sure the gap to reach the T-slot is only two blocks wide.
- Let the T-block slowly reach the bottom. Keep an eye on it as it goes down.
- When the T-block is near the bottom, press up to start rotating it. It seems impossible, but you can really twist the T-block under the ledge.
- T-Spins can be worth 400 points. Freeing two lines with a T-Spin is worth even more.
- When the level and speed go up, you can rotate the piece continuously to increase the time you have to place it. Learn how to use the buttons for clockwise and counterclockwise rotation, and remember to keep an I piece aside. of the pieces vertically in that space. If you are good enough you could generate combos of 9 lines or more.
Step 2. Make Tetris
A tetris consists of completing four lines at the same time. The easiest way to do this is to build four compact lines with an empty column of one block to the side. Then, when you have an I block, use it to complete all four lines at the same time. Tetris help you rack up points quickly, and are a great weapon in two-player mode.
Step 3. Decide your style of play
There are many ways to play Tetris, but here are the two most common styles for beginners:
- Horizontal: Most people start out this way, trying to line up each piece horizontally and not worrying about holes, just making sure the surface is flat.
- Vertical: Some people experiment with this technique after the horizontal technique. This is after they have learned that holes must be avoided at all costs. They try to align the pieces vertically, and take care to avoid holes.
Step 4. Try to avoid the holes
Holes are empty spaces that form in the stack due to the incorrect positioning of the pieces. Due to the holes, some lines cannot be completed, because you will not be able to insert any piece into the hole, as it will have a piece on top. It is usually very difficult to eliminate the holes and the players try to avoid their formation, resorting to every expedient not to create them. In some cases, when you are sure you can delete it, the best choice may be to create one.
Step 5. Keep trying to exceed your limit
Don't restart a game that is going badly - try to fix your mistakes! If you can choose the level before starting, try to choose one that forces you to work without being too difficult. Practicing this way will allow you to improve in no time.
Step 6. Challenge another player
Two-player battle is a mode common to many versions of Tetris. In this mode, you and your enemy will face each other in a challenge to the last block, and only the most determined, the most skilled and the most ready to press the buttons will win. The first player to reach the top of the screen loses.
-
Learn to attack in two players. Lines are sent to your opponent's screen when you complete two or more lines, make a combo, or do a T-Spin. When you complete two lines, your opponent receives one, when you complete three, he receives two, but when you do a tetris, your opponent will receive all four lines. T-Spins and combos will also greatly complicate your enemy's life.
One possibility that is not considered, and almost never realized, is Double Tetris. It will send 10 lines (4 for the first tetris and 6 for the second if it is consecutive) to your fearful opponent, and considering that the screen height is 20 blocks, you will fill half of their screen! You will often be able to win the game this way. Here's how to do it. In Tetris, the option exists to put a piece in Hold. You can press C or Shift (default) to put a piece in Hold. As you become more proficient, you will be able to stack 8 rows of pieces, leaving a column of one block to the side of the stack. Keep in mind that if your opponent completed a double or single tetris at this time, you would likely lose the game. While ordering the pieces this way, place an I block in Hold, and when you have another one available, do Double Tetris. Use the falling piece to perform the first tetris, then press the Hold button again to use the piece you kept, making the second tetris
Step 7. Practice
You know the saying: practice makes perfect. One of the best things about Tetris is that after you play it for a minute you will already feel better. Play a lot, and if you really like the game, you'll find your own style through the games.
Method 1 of 1: Tetris Friends Game Mode
Step 1. Marathon:
A Tetris player cannot define himself as such if he has not played this mode at least once. This is the classic Tetris mode, in which the different pieces come down from the top, and you will have to rotate them to place them in the best position to complete lines. This will make the line disappear and drop all the pieces above one square.
Step 2. Sprint:
all other modes are based on this. The way you score is the same, but different strategies are needed. Sprint mode is the same as Marathon mode, the only difference is that the aim is not to survive the 16 levels needed to finish the game. Instead your goal will be to complete 40 lines as fast as possible. You won't have to worry about scores or anything, just complete the 40 lines. There is a timer at the top of the screen that informs you of your progress. A great time to complete this mode is two minutes, one and a half minutes is excellent time. If you can complete the objective in less than a minute, you can consider yourself a champion.
Step 3. Survival:
Survival mode is similar to Marathon mode, as you will have to complete lines to level up. The difference is that you will not have to complete an increasing number of lines to advance in level, 10 lines will always be enough, and to make a well-played game, you will have to pass level 20. Also after passing level 20, a Bonus Level will begin and all the blocks you placed will start to fade away. From time to time you will have the opportunity to see some part of the pile. This is why this mode is called Survival. To progress greatly in the Bonus Level, you will need to have excellent memory, and remember exactly where each piece is placed.
Step 4. Ultra:
This is also a classic mode, and in the early days of the game, the only two modes available were this and, of course, Marathon. In Ultra, you have two minutes to accumulate as many points as possible, a time trial. This is a suitable mode for speed training, a very important component of Tetris.
Step 5. 5 Player Sprint:
This will be a mode that you will often play as a beginner, and perhaps abandon later. The reason is that the first multiplayer mode available to you (and the only one you can have if you don't have an account). In this mode, you will find yourself facing 4 other players and trying to make them eat the dust by attempting to be the first to complete 40 lines. It is a very hectic mode. You will be able to earn levels, and the higher your level, the more difficult the competition will be.
Advice
- Practice really makes perfect, or at least very very good.
- If you are having trouble doing a T-Spin, try to identify patterns that allow you to easily create a T-space.
-
The following settings are recommended for the controls:
Up: Fast Fall
Down: Slow Fall
Right and Left: Right and Left
Z and X: Clockwise and counterclockwise rotation
C: Hold.
- You can find many portable versions of Tetris, for Gameboy and many other devices.
- As a beginner, don't use Ghost Pieces (turn off the option) or Hold (don't press the button). It will be much harder to play, but do it. You will soon learn to appreciate the game and its simplicity. Instead of losing to level 3, you will be able to make it all the way to 6, then to 8 and then to 10. If you can get to level 5 without Ghost Pieces and the Hold, feel free to start using them.
- Even though the crazies are constantly coming down and the whole pile moves down to fill in the blanks, there is no gravity in Tetris. In some cases, after completing a line in a very particular way, you may notice an isolated block "floating" in the void. You can take advantage of this possibility. It is not a mistake in the game, but just the functioning of the tetris algorithm.
