Most people who have used a word processor have accidentally hit the button Caps Lock and entered capital letters. This article describes a simple method to disable the key Caps Lock of your keyboard.
Be sure to read the Warnings section before continuing.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Disable
Step 1. Go to Start> Run> Regedit
Step 2. Go to HKLM / System / CurrentControlSet / Control / Keyboard Layout
Step 3. Right click on the right half of the window and select New> Binary
Step 4. Name the new entry "Value Scancode Map"
Step 5. Enter 00000000000000000200000000003A0000000000
Step 6. Close Regedit
Step 7. Restart your computer
Method 2 of 3: Disable Insert and Caps Lock Simultaneously
Step 1. Go to Start> Run> Regedit
Step 2. Go to HKLM / System / CurrentControlSet / Control / Keyboard Layout
Step 3. Right click on the right half of the window and select New> Binary
Step 4. Name the new entry "Value Scancode Map"
Step 5. Enter 000000000000000003000000000052E000003A0000000000
Step 6. Close Regedit
Step 7. Restart your computer
Method 3 of 3: Hardware Version
Step 1. Physically remove the button
Remove the Caps Lock key from your keyboard. You'll leave a hole for the key, but you won't need administrator privileges to do so.
Advice
- Remember to update the keymap numbers if you disable more keys.
- Delete the value HKLM / System / CurrentControlSet / Control / Keyboard Layout / Scancode Map if you did something wrong. Restart and start over.
Warnings
- You will need to be a computer expert to follow this method. If you do something wrong, your keyboard will not work properly.
- You should back up your data before making any registry changes.
- You will need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
- You will need to have administrator privileges to follow this method.
- Do not confuse HKLM / System / CurrentControlSet / Control / Keyboard Layout with HKLM / System / CurrentControlSet / Control / Keyboard Layouts (note the plural).
- This change affects all users of the computer. It cannot be applied to a single user. Since the settings are saved in the registry, you will not be able to change the operation of the keys by changing the keyboard.
- If you are using a non-standard keyboard (such as a laptop) look for the key codes, as they may vary.
