Warnings

  • You will need to be a computer expert to follow this method. If you do something wrong, your keyboard will not work properly.
  • You should back up your data before making any registry changes.
  • You will need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
  • You will need to have administrator privileges to follow this method.
  • Do not confuse HKLM / System / CurrentControlSet / Control / Keyboard Layout with HKLM / System / CurrentControlSet / Control / Keyboard Layouts (note the plural).
  • This change affects all users of the computer. It cannot be applied to a single user. Since the settings are saved in the registry, you will not be able to change the operation of the keys by changing the keyboard.
  • If you are using a non-standard keyboard (such as a laptop) look for the key codes, as they may vary.
