This article shows you how to change the name that appears on comments you post on YouTube, the same name you have assigned to your channel. You can change this three times before Google temporarily restricts this type of change. By changing it, the username will also be automatically changed on all products and services offered by Google (for example Gmail and Google+).
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Mobile Devices
Step 1. Launch the YouTube app
It is characterized by a red rectangle inside which a white triangle oriented to the right is visible. If you are already logged into your account, you will be redirected to the main YouTube page.
If you haven't signed in to YouTube yet, tap the button ⋮, then enter your account email address and security password.
Step 2. Tap your profile picture
It is enclosed in a small circle and is placed in the upper right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
If you have not selected an image for the YouTube profile, the icon indicated will be characterized by a colored circle inside which the initial of your name is visible
Step 3. Select the My Channel option
It is located at the top of the page that appeared.
If you need to change the name of one of the channels linked to your YouTube account, select the item Change account, tap the channel name, then select the associated profile icon.
Step 4. Tap the icon
It is visible on the right side of the page aligned with the username currently in use.
Step 5. Select the option
next to the display name.
It features a pencil icon to the right of your current username.
Step 6. Change your name
Replace the contents of the "First Name" and "Last Name" text fields with the name you want to use.
- If you are changing your username, you must fill in both the "Name" and the "Surname" fields.
- If you are editing the channel name, you simply need to fill in the "Name" field.
Step 7. Press the ✓ button or OK.
It is located in the upper right corner of the screen. Changes made to the username will be saved and applied. This is the name that will be read by all people who watch your videos and comments.
- This name will also be used by Gmail and Google+ profiles.
- Remember that you can only change this information three times within 90 days. This is a limitation imposed by Google.
Method 2 of 2: Desktop and Laptop Computers
Step 1. Access the YouTube site using your computer browser
You can use any internet browser available for Windows or Mac computers. If you are already logged in with your account, you will be redirected to the main YouTube page.
If you are not logged in to YouTube yet, click on the button Log in and enter the associated e-mail address and security password.
Step 2. Click your profile picture
It is located at the top right of the YouTube page. A drop-down menu will appear.

Step 3. Click the Settings option or
The pop-up menu that appears will take on a different look based on the page you opened it from. It may be marked "Settings" and located in the middle of the menu or it will be represented by a gear icon located at the top of the list that appears, exactly below the username.
If you need to change the name of one of the channels linked to your YouTube account, click on Change account, click the channel name, then click the associated profile icon again.
Step 4. Click the Edit on Google option
It's a blue link to the right of your displayed name in the "Your YouTube Channel" section.
Step 5. Enter a new name
Use the "Name" and "Surname" text fields to enter the name and surname you want to use respectively.
- If the username you want to use is made up of several words (for example "Love and Puppies"), you can enter the first in the "Name" field and the rest of the name in the "Surname" field.
- If you are editing the channel name, you simply need to fill in the "Name" field.

You also have the option to add a nickname using the field Nickname. In this case you can make sure that the chosen nickname is displayed as part of the name by clicking on the icon in the shape of an arrow pointing down next to the item Show my name as:
and choosing one of the proposed combinations.
Step 6. Click the OK button
It's located at the bottom of the window where you changed your name.
Step 7. Click the Change Name button when prompted
Changes made to your account name (or YouTube channel) will be saved and applied.
Advice
- If you change your username if you have a Google+ account, but not a YouTube channel, your YouTube account will assume the same name as your Google+ profile.
- You have the ability to change your YouTube name only 3 times every 90 days.
Warnings
- It is not possible to reuse any of the usernames that you had before Google acquired YouTube.
- Remember that you will only have a limited number of possibilities to change your username, after which you will have to keep the last one you have chosen.
