This article shows you how to change your Twitter username, corresponding to the portion of text that appears after the "@" symbol. The process is different from that of changing your name that appears on your Twitter profile.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: iPhone
Step 1. Launch the Twitter app
It features a blue icon with a small stylized white bird inside. If you are already logged into your Twitter account, you will be automatically redirected to the main profile screen.
If you are not logged in yet, press the button Log in, enter your current username (or email address associated with your account) and your security password, then press the button Log in.
Step 2. Tap the Account icon
It features a stylized human silhouette and is placed in the lower right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Press the ⚙️ button
It is located at the top of the screen, to the right of the profile picture.
Step 4. Choose the Settings and Privacy option
It is located at the top of the menu that appeared.
Step 5. Select the Account item
It is visible at the top of the screen.
Step 6. Choose the Username option
It is located at the top of the page that appeared.
Step 7. Tap the text field labeled "New"
It is located under the current username of your Twitter account.
Step 8. Type in the new username you have chosen to use
As you type in the new name, the Twitter application will check the availability of the entered username in real time.
If the name you typed is already in use by another user, you will need to choose a different one
Step 9. Press the Finish button
It is located in the upper right corner of the screen. If the new username entered is marked with a green check mark on the right side, you will be able to press the button end to save your settings changes and start using your new Twitter username.
Step 10. Press the Finish button again
In this way, you will close the account settings page and you will be redirected to the main screen of the Twitter application. At this point, your new username should be visible under your profile name.
Method 2 of 3: Android devices
Step 1. Launch the Twitter app
It features a blue icon with a small stylized white bird inside. If you are already logged into your Twitter account, you will be automatically redirected to the main profile screen.
If you are not logged in yet, press the button Log in, enter your current username (or email address associated with your account) and your security password, then press the button Log in.
Step 2. Tap the image associated with your Twitter profile
It is visible in the upper left of the screen. If you haven't selected a custom profile picture yet, the default one with an egg on a colored background will be visible.
Step 3. Choose the Settings and Privacy option
It is located at the bottom of the menu that appeared.
Step 4. Select the Account item
It is located at the top of the page.
Step 5. Choose the Username option
It is located at the top of the screen
Step 6. Tap the current username displayed and delete it
It is located at the top of the "Username" page.
Step 7. Type in the new username you have chosen
After entering it, you will see a small green check mark appear to the right of the new name: this means that it is available.
If, on the other hand, the name you have chosen has already been selected by another user, the text entered will appear in red. In this case, you will have to choose a different one
Step 8. Press the Finish button
It is located in the lower right corner of the screen. The new username you have chosen has been successfully saved and will be displayed in all places where this information should appear.
Method 3 of 3: Desktop Systems
Step 1. Log in to the Twitter website
If you are already logged into your Twitter account, you will be automatically redirected to the main profile screen.
If you are not logged in yet, press the button Log in, located in the upper right corner of the window, enter the current username (or the e-mail address associated with the account) and the security password, then press the button Log in.
Step 2. Select your profile picture
It is located at the top right of the page, to the left of the button Tweet.
Step 3. Choose the item Settings and privacy
It is visible at the bottom of the drop-down menu that appeared.
Step 4. Type the new username you have chosen into the "Username" text field
It is located at the top of the "Accounts" tab of the settings. As you type in the new name, the Twitter application will check the availability of the entered username in real time.
If the name you have chosen is available, you will see the green "Available!" above the "Username" text field
Step 5. Press the Enter key
A pop-up will appear in which you will need to enter the account security password to be able to save the changes.
Step 6. Enter your Twitter account login password
Use the "Password" text field visible in the "Save account changes" window.
Step 7. Press the Save Changes button
It is colored blue and is located in the lower right corner of the dialog box. This way, the new username you have chosen will be saved.
