Ops. You've locked your car keys inside and don't have time to wait for your automobile club to come to your rescue. If your car has a vertical lock, you can take matters into your own hands, break into your car and resume your day in a matter of minutes.
Steps
Step 1. Get a fairly stiff metal rod, like an old umbrella stick
Don't waste time struggling with a hanger to untangle it, as the hangers are still too fragile to grip the release button.
Step 2. Remove two ribs from an umbrella, long enough to reach the unlock button inside the door
With a pair of rubber-handled pliers, pry open the door just a gap.
Step 3. Using one of the slats, open the top of the glass just a gap
You will need to slide the batten between the gasket and the glass. Don't worry about damaging or deforming the gasket, as it will regain its original shape once you're done.
Step 4. Pry the glass to open it further using the rubber handle of the pliers, so as not to scratch it
Step 5. Thread the tip of both slats through the slot and direction down to the lock release button
If you are alone you may not be able to maneuver both battens. Ideally, you should have someone hold the glass slit open for you so that you can maneuver the slats with both hands. Direct the slats over the release button and press it down. If you are using both slats, try to force the button from different angles to increase the grip.
Step 6. Line up the slats on the release button and press
This should allow you to unlock the lock so that you can pick up where you left off.
