A good facial exfoliator, in addition to keeping your skin clean and renewed, can prevent breakouts and dry skin. When you feel ready for the next scrub, try to create an effective DIY product: you will save money and, with a little practice, you can try different ingredients and be able to find the ones that best suit your skin. This article contains instructions for preparing 4 different scrubs based on ingredients that you most likely already have in your kitchen pantry: sugar, oil and honey.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Cleansing Cream + Sugar
Step 1. Wash your face carefully
Wet your face with a little warm water and then rub it gently with a soft, clean cloth. You can also use any face soap, choose the one that best suits your skin type.
Step 2. Pour a teaspoon of cleansing cream into the palm of your hand
Any product you have at home will be fine, the important thing is that it is in cream.
Step 3. Add 2 teaspoons of sugar to the cleansing cream
With both hands, mix the two ingredients to mix them and create a grainy paste.
- Choose a fine sugar, too large granules could scratch your face.
- If you want to save some scrub for later use, prepare it in a bowl instead of in the palm of your hand. Mix the ingredients in the right proportions, pour them into a jar, cap it and store it on the bathroom shelf.
Step 4. Apply the grainy paste to your face in circular motions
Focus especially on the sides of the nose and dry areas. Pay attention to the eye area.
If you get some of the product in your eyes, rinse them with clean water
Step 5. Dampen a small towel with warm water
With gentle movements, start rubbing it on your face to remove the scrub. If necessary, re-moisten the fabric.
Step 6. Finish the cold water treatment
This will close the pores of your face and give new freshness to your skin. Dry with a soft cloth.
Method 2 of 4: Green Tea + Sugar + Honey
Step 1. Make a cup of extra-strong green tea
Green tea, applied to the skin, is said to have anti-aging properties and to reduce wrinkles, blemishes and even scars.
- For best results use green tea leaves and a strainer, rather than a tea bag.
- If you decide to use a sachet, choose an unflavored tea. It will be more focused and give you better results.
Step 2. Pour a couple of tablespoons of freshly brewed tea into a bowl
Let it cool down.
Step 3. Add a spoonful of sugar
Continue to incorporate sugar until you get a sufficiently grainy consistency. The mixture must have both the right humidity, in order to be applied easily, and the right roughness, to be able to exfoliate the skin of your face.
Step 4. Incorporate a spoonful of honey
Stir to mix evenly. Honey has excellent moisturizing and antibacterial properties.
If you want to keep the scrub for later use, pour it into a glass jar and cap it. Keep it in a cool and dry place, it will keep for several weeks
Step 5. Apply the scrub after washing your face
Rub the mixture into your skin, focusing on the driest areas. Remove the scrub with a damp cloth and, at the end of the treatment, rinse your face with cold water.
Method 3 of 4: Coconut oil + Sugar + Lemon
Step 1. Pour a generous 100ml of coconut oil into a bowl
If you don't have coconut oil available, use olive, almond, or grapeseed oil.
Seed oils should be avoided due to their intense smell
Step 2. Add 2 tablespoons of sugar
Stir and continue adding sugar until you get a grainy, spreadable consistency.
Step 3. Incorporate 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to increase the cleansing properties of your scrub
If you want to keep the scrub for later use, pour it into a glass jar and cap it. Keep it in a cool and dry place, it will keep for several weeks
Step 4. Apply the scrub after washing your face
Rub the mixture into your skin, focusing on the driest areas. Remove the scrub with a damp cloth and, at the end of the treatment, rinse your face with cold water.
Oil-based scrubs will make your face very soft and, as they will leave a thin residue of oil on your skin, they are perfect for dry skin
Method 4 of 4: Almond flour + Almond oil + Essential oil
Step 1. Pour 125g of almond flour into a bowl
You can make your own flour by blending whole almonds in a food processor.
- Don't blend them for too long, or they'll turn into milk.
- Do not use salted or roasted almonds.
Step 2. Blend a generous 100ml of almond oil with flour
If you prefer, you can use olive oil or another cosmetic oil.
Seed oils should be avoided due to their intense smell
Step 3. Add a few drops of an essential oil of your choice
Lavender, lemon and rose will make the scrub experience even more enjoyable.
Advice
- A few drops of essential oil, added to each scrub, will awaken its aromatherapeutic properties.
- It is best to use a homemade scrub within a couple of weeks to prevent the natural ingredients from deteriorating.
- If you have blackheads, or if you want to open the pores of your face before the scrub, warm a towel by wetting it with warm, but not hot, water, and then press it into the skin of your face.
