A body with a tanned and golden complexion is beautiful to look at, sexy and attractive. At the same time, however, you must avoid getting burned and minimize the risks associated with tanning. This tutorial will give you some guidelines to naturally tan in the sun or with self-tanner products, so you can look gorgeous without sunburn.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Outdoors
Step 1. Spread a full-screen non-screen protective cream
Creams with SPF allow a certain amount of rays to penetrate the skin so you can tan, while protecting you from dangerous UVA and UVB.
Step 2. Choose a water resistant product
Before starting to sweat or swim, wait about 15 minutes for the cream to soak into the skin.
- Avoid the central hours of the day. Do not stay in the sun between 10am and 4pm. The sun's rays in this time slot are particularly strong and you run a greater risk of getting burned.
- Gradually increase the exposure time. Start sunbathing for 15 minutes and then add about 5 minutes per week. This way you will tan gradually without getting burned.
Method 2 of 3: Self Tanner Spray
Step 1. Before you begin, exfoliate your skin
Use a body scrub and a loofah to remove superficial dead skin cells. If you omit this step, you will get a speckled tan.
Step 2. Apply moisturizer to fingernails, toenails and eyebrows
This allows you to prevent them from turning brown or orange.
Step 3. Choose a colored aerosol product if you have decided to use this technique at home
If you choose a colorless spray, you risk not knowing how much you have applied and on which parts of the body.
Step 4. Place a towel on the shower tray
Step into the shower and close the cubicle or curtain to avoid accidentally soiling other bathroom surfaces.
Step 5. Pay particular attention to areas with dry skin
Add some moisturizer on your knees and elbows and spray them with less product than on other areas of the body.
Step 6. Adopt a special back technique
Spray the product in the air and then take a step back to let it fall on your back, just like you would with a perfume. Repeat the operation 2-3 times to be sure you have covered the area evenly.
Step 7. Correct mistakes with a sponge
You can purchase a special product to remove color from darker areas, to correct streaks and other application errors.
Step 8. Visit a beauty salon for this procedure if you don't feel like doing it yourself
Know that it could cost you between 80 and 100 euros.
Method 3 of 3: Gel or Foam Self Tanner
Step 1. Exfoliate your skin with a scrub and a loofah
Apply the self-tanner in gel or foam immediately after preparing the skin, to be sure to spread a smooth and homogeneous layer.
Step 2. Apply a moisturizer that contains a gradual tan
Step 3. Make sure it's a DHA product, which is the active ingredient in most self-tanners
Step 4. This kind of moisturizer has a double function, as it also covers any spots you may have forgotten when applying the foam or gel
Step 5. Start with the lower limbs and slowly work your way upwards
This prevents you from creating creases on already treated skin as you bend down to spread the self-tanner on your legs.
Step 6. Ask your partner to help you
You will need help applying the product to your back and other hard-to-reach places.
Advice
- Remember to use a specific product for the lips, so as not to burn them. You can use an SPF 15 liquid lipstick and apply sunscreen to the rest of your face.
- If you get burned, apply damp towels to your skin or take a cold bath. Spread aloe vera and do not break any blisters. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever to manage discomfort.
- Avoid the "preparatory tan" for the holiday. Tanning yourself with a sun bed before going on vacation does not decrease the risk of sunburn. In fact, people who are already dark avoid wearing sunscreen during the holiday and therefore burn more easily.
- When exfoliating your skin before applying self-tanner, choose a scrub with spherical artificial abrasive elements (instead of granular ones). He also buys an oil-free product, so as not to interpose a barrier between the skin and the self-tanner.
- The tan gives you a good look, but don't overdo it. A burned body is not healthy.

If you are a person who seems to have never gotten a bit of sun, here are some useful tips:
- Remember to apply the sunscreen to avoid sunburn and to tan safely.
- You don't have to lie down to sunbathe like a lizard to get a tan; just do outdoor activities after spreading a protective cream, so you don't even have to pretend not to be bored! Have fun outdoors and you will see that you will also be tanned.
- If these tips do not give the desired result, remember that even a pale complexion is just as beautiful. Beautiful fair skin is definitely more attractive than a red, itchy, flaky one. If you take care of your skin right away, in the future you will avoid wrinkles and damage caused by excessive exposure to the sun. Try to feel comfortable with your skin!
