Paper garlands can decorate everyday environments, decorate your home for the holidays, or make any occasion from a birthday party to a bachelorette party more festive. You can make simple paper garlands, a round garland, and a variety of other garlands using a little paper, creativity and a few simple tools. If you want to learn how to make a paper garland in no time, just follow these steps.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Method One: the Plain Paper Garland
Step 1. Get at least 10 pieces of construction paper
To vary, choose two different colors, or you can also get cards in many different colors. Choose colors that are appropriate for the season or occasion - red, green and yellow for Christmas, or pastel colors if it's a "baby shower" (party organized in honor of a future mother) or a bachelorette party.
Step 2. Cut out at least three strips of paper measuring approximately 6 cm by 25 cm
Use a sturdy pair of scissors to cut strips of paper of the same size from each piece of construction paper. You can change the size according to your preferences - changing the width of the strips will make the circles of the garland larger while changing the length will make the garland longer.
Step 3. Shape a strip of paper to create a circle
Simply create a circle by folding the strip into a round shape, and overlap the ends of the cardstock by about an inch. The surest way to get the strips to keep their round shape is to glue the ends of the strip together and wait for the glue to dry before proceeding. But if you don't have the time or patience to glue the pieces of each garland one by one, you can also attach the circles with clear tape.
-
If you are really short on time, you can also point the ends of the circles with two pointer points. But remember that if a circle opens, the wreath comes undone.
Step 4. Join another circle to the first circle
Now take another strip of cardboard and pass it inside the first circle until you join the two ends to form a second circle. Join the ends of the second circle together just like you did for the first ones. If you have chosen to make a multicolored garland, you will need to make the second circle of a different color from the first.
Step 5. Repeat this step until you have joined all the circles
Continue to thread each strip of paper inside the previous circle and then close it to form another circle, until you have joined all the circles and created a paper garland made of intertwined circles. If you want your wreath to be longer, simply cut more strips of paper and make more circles until you are happy with the length.
Step 6. Hang your wreath
Once you have created a wreath, all you have to do is hang it. You can drape a tree, a yard, a column, or any piece of furniture in the house. If you want to hang your wreath on the wall, hang the hoops on a solid, protruding nail.
Method 2 of 3: Method Two: the Circular Paper Garland
Step 1. Obtain at least 10 pieces of stiff paper of varying thickness for business use
This type of paper is a little thicker and more durable than regular paper and will make your wreath look more elegant. To create a fun and eye-catching wreath, choose paper with various patterns, from pink and purple polka dots to stripes to checkered green paper. Try to select different motifs that combine well with each other. For variation, you can also use cardboard in the middle.
Step 2. Cut the paper into strips
Cut each piece of paper into 3-5 strips, depending on how big you want the circles to be. It will be easier to shape the circles if you cut the paper into strips first.
Step 3. Cut out circles of paper
The wreath will look more beautiful if the circles are of different sizes - any diameter size between 7.5cm and 15cm will do. You don't have to use all the colors of the paper equally, and you don't have to cut the same number of circles for different sizes.
-
The easiest way to cut out the circles is to use circular paper hole; you can also draw a round shape on the back of each piece of paper and cut it out with scissors.
Step 4. Create your garland motif
Arrange the circles in the order you want them in the garland. If you want to make a two-sided wreath, join two paper circles of the same size and pattern together. Arrange them in a varied and eye-catching way.
Place this composition near your sewing machine so that it will be easier to support it
Step 5. Sew the paper circles together
Choose a colored thread to hold the garland together, red for example, and run it through the center of each circle. Place the first circle in the cooking machine, drop the needle, and turn on the machine. Then start threading each circle through the sewing machine, followed by the one you want to appear next in your composition, until all are connected with the thread. You can leave a few centimeters of space between one circle and another, or keep them more separate or closer to each other.
- There is no need for the spaces to be all the same or for the thread to be sewn exactly in the center. As long as the circles are connected and attract attention, your wreath will be spectacular.
- Close the last point on the last round shape.
Step 6. Hang your wreath
Once you've created your wreath, you can simply hang it on the wall with a few thumbtacks and drape the yarn. For added strength, you can also use nails. You can also use the wreath to decorate trees or furniture.
Method 3 of 3: Method Three: the Paper Floral Garland
Step 1. Get at least 10 pieces of heavy card stock
You will need different colors to make the petals, and paper of different shades of green to make the leaves. You can choose any color as long as it is bright and flashy; red, yellow or orange are perfect. This type of paper is heavier than regular drawing paper and will be easy to shape and curl. You will need 2-3 small pieces of green paper, the rest you will use for the flowers.
Step 2. Draw flower shapes on the paper
Create a pattern with various flowers that have connected petals, and trace this template onto the paper you will use for the petals. Then, create a pattern with different leaf motifs and trace them onto the green paper. These patterns can be of any size, but the flowers should theoretically be as large as your hand, while the leaves should measure about three fingers.
Step 3. Cut out the paper shapes
Use a sharp pair of scissors to cut the paper templates. You should get about twenty-five flowers and ten leaves.
Step 4. Shape the flowers
Use a pair of scissors to curl the ends of the paper, just like you would to curl a bow. Slide the fetals on the blade of the scissors, some inwards and others outwards - alternately, curl the front or back of the paper.
Step 5. Create the leaves
Fold the leaves in half to form a line in the center, then curl them inwards using scissors. This will give the leaves thickness and texture.
Step 6. Create a pattern with the petals and leaves
Now arrange the flowers and leaves in a horizontal pattern to form a flashy wreath. The leaves will be on the sides of the petals, there is no need to alternate them between one flower and another. You can repeat the same colors or arrange them randomly.
Step 7. Run a thread between the shapes
Slide a very thick string or thread into a thick needle, and use the needle to pierce the center of each petal and leaf. Then, run the needle and thread between the holes until you have connected all the shapes together. When you're done, trim the excess yarn and tie it tightly at both ends to hold the composition together.
Step 8. Add a small pompom (or buds) to the center of the flowers
Step 9. Hang your wreath
Now that you have created your beautiful paper flower wreath, you can hang it in the trees or in the garden, or you can decorate your house by hanging it from nails or tacks. You can wrap the wreath around the balustrade or on a tree trunk.
