J. K. Rowling is the author of the Harry Potter book saga. The writer is very appreciative of fan mail, but since she receives so much of it, she prefers it to be sent to her publishers. The only way you can contact her is by mail: although the correspondence from her fans is too much to be able to follow up on all the messages, there is a way to increase the chances of receiving a reply.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Contact J. K. Rowling
Step 1. Write the letter
You will need an envelope to mail it - any model is fine. Once you have finished your letter, put it in the envelope.
Step 2. Prepare the letter for mailing
Write recipient and sender on the envelope noting both addresses on the front: the recipient in the center and the sender in the top left. Then glue the stamp on the top right.
- If you live in the United States, send the letter to the address of your U. S. publisher: J. K. Rowling c / o Arthur A Levine Books 557 Broadway New York, NY 10012.
- If you live in the UK, send the letter to its UK publisher's address: J. K. Rowling c / o Bloomsbury Publishing PLC 50 Bedford Square London WC1B 3DP UK.
- Finally, if you live in any other country, send the letter to the address where it is cheaper to send it.
Step 3. Send the letter
You can look for a letterbox to post it or go to the most convenient post office. In the latter case you may find a chute for outgoing mail, otherwise you will have to wait in line for your turn.
Step 4. Try tweeting them if it's something quick
If you only have one question to ask her, and you don't want to send her the classic letter from a fan, you can try asking directly via Twitter. Write it down and add @jk_rowling at the beginning of your tweet.
Part 2 of 2: Improving your Admiration Letter
Step 1. Make your letter stand out
Since J. K. Rowling gets a lot of fan mail, any solution that highlights your message will give you a better chance of getting a response. Try to lightly decorate the envelope with colors and designs.
Writing the letter by hand will also make it stand out since most of the messages are typed or on a PC. If you opt for this solution, however, it is important to write with a very clear and legible handwriting
Step 2. Make a personal impression
Keep in mind that this is a letter from a fan, so don't forget to write something personal. Start with the introductions, then write something about yourself, without going too far! Then explain what Harry Potter represents to you.
Name some specific parts or small details about Harry Potter that you particularly liked and explain why
Step 3. Ask questions
You will have a much better chance of getting an answer if you ask a question or two. At this point J. K. Rowling has probably already read every possible question about Harry Potter. Nonetheless, try to think of something that might seem original to ask. Something vague and obvious like "What inspired you to write Harry Potter?" it will certainly not raise a great deal of interest.
Step 4. Add something creative to the letter
If you have creative interests, like writing or drawing, use them to make your letter unique. Attach a drawing or poem. You can be inspired by Harry Potter, but don't feel compelled to do so.
Step 5. Be brief
Don't overdo it when writing the letter. Keep in mind how many letters each day J. K. Rowling must read. It might be wise to revise your message after you've written it and fixed it, cutting out any excess and making it more concise.
