There are numerous reasons why you might decide to dye your eyebrows. If you are in the habit of dyeing your hair, it may be a good idea to color your eyebrows as well to harmonize the tones. Or maybe they're just very light and you'd like to darken them to make them more noticeable. Dyeing them is pretty simple, but the result can make a huge difference. By learning how to use a DIY kit you will save money and you can color them whenever you want, without having to make an appointment and go to the beautician. Read on to find out more.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Prepare the Tint
Step 1. Purchase an eyebrow tint
Go to a perfumery or a hairdressing and beauty salon supplies store to purchase a DIY coloring kit. Inside you will find everything you need to dye your eyebrows.
Think carefully before choosing your color. Generally speaking, the shade of the eyebrows should match that of the hair. As a result, if you have blonde hair, you shouldn't dye it a dark color so as not to create a noticeable contrast. If your hair is dark, your eyebrows should be too
Step 2. Shape your brows
Before coloring them, it is advisable to define their shape. Proceed as usual using the method you prefer. For example, you can shorten them with scissors, tear them off with tweezers or wax. The important thing is to do it the day before dyeing them.
Step 3. Clean them
Use your regular makeup remover and a cotton pad to remove any makeup and cosmetic residue, then rinse them off with water. When finished, brush them with a pipe cleaner.
Step 4. Protect the surrounding skin with petroleum jelly
This is an optional step, but applying a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the skin around the eyebrows will prevent it from being stained by the dye.
Part 2 of 3: Using the Tint
Step 1. Blend the products
The kits are not all the same, in addition to the content, the method of preparation can also vary. For this reason it is important to carefully read the instructions on the package to properly mix the dye and the revealing milk. Some kits contain more than one color, usually brown and black. You will have to dose them according to the desired result; if you want your brows to get pretty dark, it's best to use a small dose of both. If, on the other hand, you prefer to get a lighter color, it is better to use only brown. Also, carefully follow the instructions on the amount of revealing milk you need, a few drops will most likely be enough. At this point, mix the products to obtain a homogeneous mixture.
- The kit may contain a bowl in which to mix the products. If not, use a small ceramic or plastic (not metal) container.
- The package may also contain a spatula or a wooden stick to be used to mix the different components of the dye. Alternatively, you can use a brush.
Step 2. Apply the tint
Distribute it on the eyebrows using the applicator contained in the kit or a common brush. Make sure you completely coat the hair. First, focus on the central part of each eyebrow, where the hairs are thickest, then move on to the ones that define the outline.
Step 3. Remove excess tint
If you haven't used petroleum jelly to avoid staining the skin around the eyebrows, it's best to remove the excess mixture using a cotton swab dipped in the makeup remover. Run it slowly along the contour of each eyebrow to define its outline.
Step 4. Also dye your lashes
This step is optional. If you have very light lashes, you may want to darken them so that the color matches that of your brows. In this case, take a tiny dose of tint with the brush, then apply it slowly on the lashes, holding it horizontally so as not to risk touching the eyes or eyelids. Proceed with extreme caution.
Part 3 of 3: Completing the Job
Step 1. Wait for the indicated shutter speed
Read the instructions on the package carefully to find out how many minutes you need to let the dye work. Set the timer, then wait. To make the two eyebrows look identical, it is advisable to use two different timers. Start one as soon as you've finished dyeing the first eyebrow, then start the second when you've completed the job with the other one as well.
Step 2. Wash off the dye
Once the shutter speed has elapsed, remove the color using wet cotton pads. Also in this step, it is best to start from the central part of the eyebrow and then move on to the outer profile. When finished, check that you have removed all traces of the product. You will likely need to apply light pressure. Remember to also remove the petroleum jelly from the surrounding skin.
Step 3. Repeat the process with the other eyebrow
When you are done with the first, the timer will likely indicate that it is time to remove the dye from the second as well. As you may have guessed, to color the eyebrows at home it is essential to act with precision, scrupulously respecting the times and directions for use. Check one last time that you have removed all traces of dye and petroleum jelly from your face.
Step 4. Finished
Advice
- If the dye accidentally gets on your skin, simply wipe it off with a wet cotton pad.
- If your eyebrows seem too dark when you finish, remember that the reason may be that they are still wet. Wait until they are completely dry before judging the result.
