Beer pong is a very popular game in the United States and is the classic college party entertainment. While technically a drinking game, it requires a lot of skill and some luck. Anyone, as long as they are of legal age, can have fun with this game. This article describes the basic rules and some variations that you can include if you want.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Prepare the Tables
Step 1. You can organize one-on-one or one-on-one matches
When facing two pairs, both members of each team must throw the ball at each turn.
Step 2. Half fill 20 480ml plastic cups using beer
If you don't want to drink too much, then you can only fill the containers to a quarter of their capacity. You can also vary the amount of alcohol as you wish, as long as there is the same amount of beer in each glass on each side of the table.
Step 3. Fill a bucket with clean water to rinse the ball with each toss
While hygiene isn't the primary concern of a beer pong game, no one wants to drink from a dirty glass. Make sure there is clean water so each player can wash the ball before throwing it. Don't forget some kitchen paper to dry the splashes.
Step 4. At each end of the table, arrange the plastic cups to form two triangles, each with 10 containers
The tip of each triangle points towards the opposing team. There will be one glass in the first row, two in the second, three in the third and the base of the triangle will consist of four glasses. Make sure you don't tilt the glasses.
- You can also play with six glasses.
- The greater the number of glasses, the longer the game can last.
Step 5. Determine which team will be the first to play
Very often the game of "rock, paper or scissors" is used to choose who is entitled to the first round. Alternatively, you can proceed with the classic toss of the coin. You can also try the "look" game: in this case both teams try to hit a glass while staring into the opponent's eyes. Whoever hits first is entitled to the first round.
Part 2 of 3: Playing the Game
Step 1. Each team throws the ball into the glasses in turn
Each opponent is entitled to one throw per round and the goal is to hit a glass in the opponent's court. You can "hit" by throwing the ball directly into the container or with a "bounce" on the table.
- When you shoot the ball, make it follow an arc trajectory, you will have a better chance of hitting the target.
- Aim for the glasses in the center of the triangle rather than those on the sides.
- Try shooting on hand or from above and see which technique works best for you.
Step 2. Drink based on where the ball lands
When a glass is hit, alternate with your teammate for drinks; if you drank the first glass, your partner will drink the second. Each glass drunk leaves the game and is removed from the table.
Step 3. When there are only 4 glasses left, rearrange them in a diamond shape
Once six glasses have been centered and drunk, the ones that remain must be arranged in a diamond shape, so that it is easier to center them.
Step 4. Arrange the last two glasses in a single row
When eight containers have been eliminated from the game, the last two must be placed next to each other.
Step 5. Keep playing like this until the glasses are gone
The team that runs out of glasses loses, while the other is the winner.
Part 3 of 3: Variants
Step 1. Roll two balls per turn
There are many alternative rules to beer pong. In this case, each two-player team must throw two balls each round until they miss a center. Once the round is over, it will be up to the other team to throw and so on.
Step 2. Declare which glass you will hit before throwing
This is one of the most common variations of the game. If you hit the declared glass, then the opponent must drink its contents. If you make a mistake by hitting another container, the throw is considered void and the glass remains on the table.
Step 3. Give the losing team one last turn after the other team wins
This is called "rematch". The losing team may continue to throw the ball until it fails and the game is considered over. If during the "rematch" round, the opposing team manages to hit all the glasses of the winners, then it goes to an "extra time" with 3 glasses for each team. At this point, the first team to take the lead is named the winner and the game can be considered over.
Step 4. Score two points for the rebounding basket
With this rule, the player who has hit the glass with a rebound shot has the possibility to drink two opposing glasses, one hit and another of his choice.
Advice
- There are many variations of this game; Always ask the group of friends which rules apply to the specific game.
- You shouldn't just throw the ball into the air, but you should make a smooth motion to "accompany" it to the glass you aimed at.
- To organize a competition where people of all ages can have fun (and not to drink too much alcohol), replace the beer with a non-alcoholic drink. Apple cider is a great alternative, as it tastes similar to wine.
- Always aim for a specific glass.
Warnings
- To avoid the risk of infections and unpleasant bacterial diseases caused by contaminated beer, put water in the game glasses and drink the beer that has been stored in other separate containers when you lose points.
- Always drink responsibly.
- Don't drink if you plan to drive.
