Do you want to look slimmer without going to the gym? Obviously yes! There are tons of ways to look slimmer right away without running into dangerous restrictive diets or drastic plastic surgery. Just plan everything with a minimum of strategy. Keep reading this article to instantly appear leaner.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Choosing the Slimming Clothes
Step 1. Wear clothes that fit your silhouette
The first move to do is always to choose the right clothes for your body. Those that are too small or too wide make you look fatter than you are. They do not have to be tight, because they would put the emphasis on the rolls of fat. On the other hand, however, they shouldn't be too wide either because you would appear more voluminous and would hide your shapes, making you believe that under the layer of fabric there is "more body" than it actually is. For these reasons, only choose clothes that fit your physique, they should hug your body loosely.
This also applies to underwear, of course. Choose a bra and panties that suit you. Most women, for example, wear the wrong bra. The elastic of the panties should not "bite" the hips and the bra should firmly support the breasts without them snacking from above or creating an ugly "sausage" effect on the sides of the trunk
Step 2. Wear clothing that draws attention to the waist
This is a trick that allows you to look visibly slimmer. The waistline is the narrowest abdominal area; choose blouses that follow the line of the torso and emphasize the waistline. Wear belts or t-shirts with patterns, designs or seams that bring the eye to the leanest area of the bust.
For example, blouses that have flounces or curls towards the waist area make you look slimmer
Step 3. Choose dresses that highlight the décolleté and hips
The waistline can look even tighter if you emphasize the chest and hips. Wear shirts, skirts and dresses that highlight the hips (in the case of boys it is important not to put the shirt in the pants, when possible). You should also choose tops that make the breasts appear larger, such as ruffled blouses or cowl necks.
Step 4. Adjust the length of the clothes
You can disguise your size quite a lot by adapting the length of the clothes. The hem of shirts, jackets, skirts and all items of clothing can be modified and, consequently, change your appearance. It is usually recommended to follow well-defined lines at the height of the hips or chest and waist and to keep the hems and contours as close as possible to these areas.
- For example, you should avoid all those large and colorful "tourist" dresses that create volume and do not follow the line of the silhouette. We are talking about the capri shorts, long skirts up to mid-calf and wide shorts with pockets on the sides of the thighs that do not do your image a favor.
- The best choice is straight leg jeans, tight at the ankle that define a nice line. Some women also wear flared skirts that come to the knee or just above.
Step 5. Find the accessories that make you look slimmer
You also have to carefully match the accessories. Some can change the way other people look at you, creating the illusion that you are taller and thinner. Long necklaces, for example, are perfect for giving the impression of a taller and slimmer figure. Bulky accessories, such as large and colorful bracelets, draw attention to thin wrists and also make the rest of the physique appear slimmer by contrast.
Earrings and hair bands are a great way to distract attention from "pain points". These are especially useful when the head is small compared to the rest of the body
Step 6. Use colors and decorative patterns to your advantage
You can match colors to look slimmer. Obviously, the first tip is the classic one: black streamlines. Black is your friend color along with other dark colors which reduce the number of perceptible shadows on the body. This creates the optical illusion that makes you look thinner. Combine a dark suit with hints of color and bright accessories for the waist, wrists, neck and feet. All of this contributes to streamlining your silhouette. There are also a couple of decorative motifs you should consider:
- Choose dresses with vertical lines. The vertical and thin lines create an optical illusion for which you appear thinner and taller (the sides of the body seem closer to each other).
- Avoid large decorative patterns (actually most decorations), as they add volume and make you look more burly. Finding reasons that don't make you look slimmer isn't easy at all, so when in doubt, avoid them altogether.
Step 7. Don't wear clothing that makes you look bigger
Avoid any dress that adds volume in the wrong places. All the clothes that don't fit you well obviously have this defect, but some styles fall into this error even if the garment is the correct size. Empire style tops make the waistline bigger, so much so that some women look pregnant. Thick sweaters are another example of clothes that give the body unwanted centimeters, distracting the eye that watches you from the thinnest points.
Step 8. Use modeling leotards and girdles to reduce body size
Thanks to this type of underwear, the body actually becomes leaner. They are sometimes referred to as Spanx, after the more common brand name. These are T-shirts, shorts or bodysuits made of elastic material that hold and shape the body at certain key points. Although tight and sometimes uncomfortable, these undergarments perform their function perfectly. You can find them in lingerie stores, in corsets and even online.
This underwear is also available for men who often want to shape the chest and abdomen, although there are also those who want slimmer legs and bottoms
Part 2 of 2: Adjusting the Body
Step 1. Maintain good posture
Taking a correct position, with your abs contracted, makes you look, at least, 5 kg leaner. The back should be straight with the shoulders back. Sometimes you will feel very uncomfortable, especially if you are used to poor posture. However, be aware that visually there will be a big difference.
- Sleeping on your back helps keep your back straight during the day.

Step 2. Wear heels, even if you are a man
With heels, your posture changes naturally as your pelvis rotates back helping you to keep your back and shoulders straight. They also lengthen your legs making you, proportionately, slimmer. Women should wear heels that make them appear thinner, while men should choose footwear with a little thickness to get the same benefits, albeit to a lesser extent.
Step 3. Keep your chin up
You need to keep your head up and not just your shoulders straight. In this way you avoid the formation of the "double chin", because the adipose tissue extends throughout the face and neck, making it leaner overall. The double chin makes even a slender person look fat, because it adds “visible” kilograms.
Step 4. Pay attention to the position of the limbs
Grab a fashion magazine and try to cross your arms and legs like models do, for a slimmer look. For example, cross your legs when sitting, to narrow the image towards the lines you created, thus looking slimmer. Keep your arms away from your body, for example, place your hands on your hips, so the attention will be directed to the waist and break the image of the body avoiding it from being too "bulky".
Step 5. Make some changes to look better in photos
When taking pictures, there are other aspects you need to consider to combat the dreaded "barrel effect" of the camera. Choose a good angle of view, for example higher than you, so as to appear leaner by reducing the visibility of a large part of the body. In addition, you should also adjust the lighting. Make sure there are no shadows around your pain points. You will have to try a few different positions and camera angles if you don't know how to adjust the lights; then you can choose the best shot.
Do not take shots with a point of view too high compared to you. You would get a "selfie" effect and the image would not be natural
Step 6. Don't eat salty foods
You can make your physique leaner by avoiding salt-rich foods. When there is too much sodium in the body, this tends to compensate by retaining fluids. All of this makes you look swollen and plump, even if you are thin. Obviously this is a remedy that you need to implement well in advance, as it takes several days for the body to return to normal size.
Foods you shouldn't eat are cold cuts, bacon, chips, soups, fast food and restaurant food
Step 7. Also avoid foods that create bloating
Some foods create gas when digested, therefore making you bloated like you have extra kilograms. Don't eat them if you want to look slimmer.
Among the foods that tend to form gas are beans, lentils, garlic, broccoli and Brussels sprouts
Advice
- If you wear a tight fitting shirt or shirt that follows the line of your body, avoid hunching over when you sit down, otherwise the abdominal swelling and "rolls" at the waist level will be more noticeable.
- Don't compare yourself to other girls. You look beautiful in what you wear, so put your clothes on! Don't let others convince you otherwise.
- Eliminate sodas. Fizzy drinks contain too much sugar, unnecessary calories, and make you look bloated. You obviously don't want that look, so stick to drinks only at parties.
- You should keep exercising. Try walking or cycling every day to start shaping your figure. Training, with the right attitude, is also fun, especially when you begin to notice the results.
- Eat healthy and drink lots of water to get the silhouette you want. Read the nutritional information to understand what is good for you and what is not; remember that healthy food doesn't have to taste bad. You can make a delicious and healthy lunch if you know what your body needs.
- Do activities that make you feel good. Wear the clothes you feel comfortable in. The better you are with yourself, the more attractive you will be to other people.
- You don't have to be thin to look good; the only thing that really matters is how the clothes fit your body and how they make you feel at ease. Remember that the size label should only give you information and does not determine who you are; for this reason, buy clothes of the right size.
- Add more fiber to your diet and choose foods rich in water such as asparagus, watermelon and melon. All this allows you to eliminate "water retention" and reduce swelling quickly.
- Always keep a positive attitude and be happy!
- Exercise every day!
- If you need to have immediate results for photo shoots or a special occasion, use makeup. Don't go overboard with blush in shades of pink. Instead, try to blend bronze blush near the temples and sides of the neck. In this way you "sculpt" your face and you will look younger and leaner.
- Never give the impression that you are embarrassed or that you are hiding your body, this will cause people to notice that something is wrong.
- If you are hungry, drink water. Sometimes you feel the urge of hunger but in truth it is only thirst.
Warnings
- Follow the diet carefully and don't overdo it. Promise yourself to eat nutritious foods, according to correct portions and be calm, you can also eat chocolate, as long as you respect certain limits.
- If you go to the gym to lose weight, again, don't overdo it. Too much exercise could harm you. Lasting results need time, don't rush.
- Stop hanging out with people and doing activities that make you feel inferior. The models are styled and made up by professionals; don't go crazy trying to look like them.
- If you have decided to follow an exercise regimen, consult a qualified doctor first. Strenuous exercise is particularly unsuitable for people with a high BMI, as it places excessive strain on the heart. Your doctor can work out a workout routine that's right for you.
