This article explains how to try to recover a Facebook account that another person has gained access to. The simplest solution is to change the password. If you can't do this, you can report that your profile is compromised.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Reset Password from a Mobile Device
Step 1. Open Facebook
The social network app is dark blue with a white "f". If you have been logged out of your profile, the login page will open.
Step 2. Press Need help?
You will find this link under the email and password fields. A menu will appear.

If you find the link on the page Did you forget your password?
skip this step.
Step 3. Press Forgot Password?
You will find the button in the menu. Press it to access the Facebook password reset page.
Step 4. Enter your email or phone number
Press the text field at the top of the page, then type in the email address or phone number you use to log into your Facebook account.
If you've never added the phone number to your Facebook profile, you'll need to use email
Step 5. Press Search
This is the blue button below the text field. You should see your Facebook profile.
Step 6. Select an account recovery method
Press one of the options at the top of the page:
- by email: Facebook will send you a reset code to the email linked to your account.
- via SMS: Facebook will send you a reset code per message to the phone number you have associated with the profile.
Step 7. Press Continue
This is the dark blue button under the account recovery options. Once you press Facebook will send you the recovery code via email or message.
Step 8. Retrieve your account code
Depending on the chosen recovery method, the operation varies:
- E-mail: open your e-mail box, search for a message from Facebook and write down the six-digit code written in the subject.
- SMS: open i messages phone and look for a new one from a five or six digit phone number, inside you will find a six digit code.
Step 9. Enter the code
Press the "Enter the six-digit code" text field, then type the number you received via e-mail or message.
- Make sure you don't take too long to enter the code, otherwise it will no longer be valid.
- You can press the item Send code again to get a different one.
Step 10. Press Continue
This button is located below the text field. Once pressed, you will confirm the code and open the next page.
Step 11. Check the "Disconnect me from other devices" box, then press Continue
In this way your account will be disconnected from all computers, tablets and phones from which it was logged, and therefore also from the device used by the hacker.
Step 12. Enter a new password
You can do this in the text field at the top of the page.
Step 13. Press Continue
The old password will be replaced with the new one. Now you can log into your Facebook profile with the new access key, while the person who hacked the account will no longer be able to do so.
Method 2 of 3: Reset Password on Desktop
Step 1. Open the Facebook website
Go to The login page should open.
Step 2. Click on Forgot Password?
Step 3. Enter your email address or phone number
Click on the text field in the center of the page, then type the email or number you used to access the profile.
Step 4. Click Search
You will find the button below the text field. Once pressed, your profile should appear.
Step 5. Select an account reset option
Click on one of the following options:
- Send code by email: Send a six-digit code to the email address you use to log into Facebook.
- Send code via SMS: send a six-digit code to the phone number associated with your Facebook profile.
- Use my Google account: This option allows you to use the Google profile to verify your identity. In this case you will not receive any code.
Step 6. Click Continue
The code will be sent to you by email or message. If you have chosen the method Use my Google account, a window will open.
Step 7. Get the verification code
Depending on the method you choose, the next steps vary:
- E-mail: open your mailbox, search for a message from Facebook and note the six-digit number written as the subject.
- SMS: open i messages phone, look for one from a five- or six-digit number and note the six-digit code inside.
- Google account: enter your e-mail and password.
Step 8. Enter the code
Enter the six-digit number in the "Enter Code" field, then click Continues. The password reset page will open.
Skip this step if you used the Google account to reset your password
Step 9. Enter a new password
Type an access key in the "New password" text field at the top of the page. From now on, you will use that word to log into Facebook.
Step 10. Click Continue
You will save the password changes.
Step 11. Check the "Disconnect from other devices" box and click Continue
This will disconnect the account from all computers, phones and tablets, including the device used to hack it, and the News page about the system you are using will open.
Method 3 of 3: Report the Account Hacking to Facebook
Step 1. Open the Facebook hacked accounts page
Go to with a browser on your computer.
Step 2. Click on My account is compromised
You will find this blue button in the center of the page. A search window will open.
Step 3. Enter your email address or phone number
Click on the text field in the center of the page, then type the email or number you usually use to log into Facebook.
If you've never added your phone number to Facebook, you need to use email
Step 4. Click Search
This button is located below the text field, on the right. Once pressed, your Facebook profile should appear.
Step 5. Enter a password
Enter the most recent passkey you remember for your Facebook account. Type in the "Current or previous password" field.
Step 6. Click Continue
It is a blue button at the bottom of the page.
Step 7. Select a valid reason
Check one of the following boxes:
- I saw a post, message, or event on my account that I didn't create
- Someone else logged into my account without my permission
- I don't see the right option on this list
Step 8. Click Continue
The first account recovery page will open.
If you tick one of the boxes not listed in the "valid reasons" above, you will end up on the Facebook help page
Step 9. Click on {MacButton | First Steps}}
The button is located in the lower right part of the page. Press it and your account will be checked for any recent changes or activity.
Step 10. Click Continue
Look for the button at the bottom right.
Step 11. Enter a new password
Type a new passkey in the "New" and "Repeat new" text fields.
Step 12. Click Next
This is the blue button at the bottom of the page.
Step 13. Check the box next to your name, then click Next
Your current name will be chosen as the profile name.
If you don't see this option, skip the step
Step 14. Edit the information you didn't change
Facebook will show you various posts, settings and other changes made recently; you can approve, reverse or delete them.
If you are asked to edit posts created by you, just click Jump At the bottom of the page.
Step 15. Click Go to News
The News page will open. You should now have full access to your account again.
